Default Martian Manhunter

Has anyone read the new martian manhunter comic? The first issue was published in october and mm is my favorite dc hero (kind of tied with the flash actually..) and I'm thinking of picking up the last five issues. So to anyone who's read it, is it any good?

the new martian manhunter is pretty awful. Besides changing his whole look they've also

*spoiler*

changed how he is the last one from his planet. he's not alone anymore.

the writing is rubbish and it feels like a chore to read.

Thankyou. Can you recommend anything dc or is it all down the toilet?

DCU wise:
Batman - Morrison is the regular writer, but Ostrander is doing a fill in. Ostrander is criminally under-rated.
Detective Comics- Dini.
Action Comics- Awesome story, wasn't to impressed with up up and away, but this looks really promosing.
Checkmate- Espionage, sometimes its hard to follow, sometime its amazing.
Green Lantern- It had its off moments, but the storylines since OYL have been descently awesome.
Green Arrow- See above.

Books I haven't read but have heard good things about:
Firestorm
Manhunter

Stay away from the flash until the new creative team comes aboard. Right now, i'm tempted to say that how its written makes it crimes against humanity.

goes without saying 52 is awesome.

green lantern is very good at the moment if you like the character they're doing some interesting stuff with him.

The new spectre is also very good.

Richard Donner is currently doing superman and i'd definately recommend you pick that up, it's a nice surprise.

Batman doesn't have much of a story arch going on right now so it's pretty much one shots.

oh and the new justice society and justice league just started and they're building new teams.

I don't really care Green Lantern. He's the type of hero that turned me off of DC for so long. Just invincible fantasy type shit, or something.

Batman right now is AWFUL. If Morrison is the regular writer, pick it up when he gets back. His one arc was awesome.

Detective Comics since 1 Year Later has been one shots, and they're all entertaining if you like Batman.

Action Comics is actually really good. Geoff Johns does a good job with Donner's story, and the art is simplistic but nice.

And 52 is the one story that brought me back into the DC Universe and got interesting. Every issue has at least as much going on as an issue of Civil War, but is spread out among about a dozen storylines and comes out weekly. So, yeah.

Green Lantern isn't invincible. He can still get ****ed up pretty bad. Well he used to be vunerable to yellow. But it's all about willpower. Rookie lanterns still have the yellow vunerability. But he only has his super power when he is wearing the ring. He doesn't constantly wear it for example he never wears it when he pilots a jet cos yeah he's a little cocky but he's also got something to prove to himself, it's also in memory of his father. Also the ring has a limited charge and in the current run of gl manhunters can actually steal the ring's power if he get's too close.

You should give the green lantern rebirth arch a try.

All the suggestions so far are solid. But if you want to delve into the backwaters of the DCU then I would recommend Shadowpact, it is a very good and fun read. Also the new Blue Beetle is pretty interesting.

I am also enjoying Teen Titans a lot, it has a nice storyline going on and with the recent return of a classic character it should be very cool.

Trials of Shazam is beautifully illustrated and has me very intrigued about the future of the Shazam family. The story has a very twelve labors of Hercules feel to it.

Finally, if you aren't onboard the new Justice Society of America then you are missing out on what, to me, is the flagship DC title. It is so steeped in DC history that it pleases this old time DC fan immensely.
