Default Is Windex Safe For Laptops?

I know it's usually a good idea to get a specific type of cleaner for a laptop screen, but I'm just wondering if Windex would be safe as I've heard that certain sprays and/or chemicals can damage your screen.

I've always heard it wasn't. I believe this issue is the ammonia in the Windex.

Windex and LCD's don't mix.
It can really screw up your screen.
you want a soft microfiber cloth and distilled water and put just a little water on the cloth and very gently wipe the screen.

Never use Windex,otherwise....

What he said...it works wonders.

Windex should only really be used on glass, and not coated glass. (And even then, sprayed onto the rag so it doesn't drip down in whatever you're cleaning...unless it's just a window or such.)

Windex with Vinegar should be OK, but to be honest I normally use eyeglass cleaner. Walk into you local el cheeapo eye glass place and get the pack with the microfiber cloth and the spray bottle of cleaner.

Provided you MIST the screen and dont drench it, you should be OK. But, as said, spray onto cloth is best.

I could be wrong, but if your screen has a glassy covering, I'd say try it out. If it's just a matte plastic definitely don't.

Thanks guys. Ok, I didn't have the time to get out and get anything special so I just went with water. Worked like a charm and no, I didn't drench the screen.
