Hey I was wondering how I could make a custom recovery partition that would resemble a hp's recovery partition. I do like to reinstall Xp PRO every few month just to keep my laptop running smoothly, and I think a recovery partition would be great.

Heads up. You didn't edit out the nLite area that lists the XP code.

If you are having that many problems you may want to consider a program called Deepfreeze (http://www.faronics.com/). We used at my prior employer and it save a lot of reimaging and system cleanup. You can get it in an individual or multicomputer corporate version. All you have to do is reboot the machine to refresh it. We reject the idea that linux is hard. When I tested W7, they moved so much crap around, it was a pain to use till i had the lay of the land so to speak. We dumped our beta version back to linux becuase there was too many problems with W7 and MS windows small business server. I do not have to continually redo my linux unless the hd fails. Considering how much you have to keep redoing the xp/vista boxes, Linux is easier. I use to think speaking a foriegn language was hard, it was not hard just unfamiliar. Besides there is always google translate if one needs it. Great for use on tech sites outside of the us. It was a shame the clonezilla live cd was not mentioned. Besides it is real easy to take a linux live cd and back up data from a mswindows system using all gui. Rsync for windows is a another great tool. You forgot to mention about updates to all the third party software on a Windows box. You can not always slimstream those. Linux will automatically update all os and application software that is in the repo. Much less hassle. you can even setup a local repo to save bandwidth. A small school or business may want to consider a linux ltsp server. It is a thin client setup where no hard drives are needed on the client machines. the only system that needs backing up is the server. There is no need for sneaker support except for a hardware failure. Even then you could integrate a virtual machine server and have users run xp or vista that way remotely. Still no software sneaker support required. Even with mac you could set up an osx server and use vnc from the linux clients to acces the mac os server. Still only two machines with hd's and no client machines to deal with. if I can find a decent video cam, I will do a video and upload it to youtube. I thought it was interesting to see the GIMP freedom software on Rogers system. Last edited by computoman : 04-07-2009 at 01:36 PM. |

Sorry, I failed to mention that I do use Fedora 10. Also I used Macrium Reflect lastnight and it only took an hour to back up my install, using the smart backup. I was planning on trying to restore in virtualbox but i just didn't have time.

With drbl/clonezilla (new version now available), 8 gigs only takes fifteen minutes at most. to back up. You must have a lot to back up.

Er, you meant Systm right?
I liked this ep a lot. I've been meaning to make both a USB software Swiss Army knife, as well as an image backup for my PC. Plus I've already downloaded Nlite. It was nice to get a tour of the program. |

Sadly he's correct, these "click this, download this, click that, install this" episodes would be right at home on Tekzilla NOT SYSTM!!!
