During the http://revision3.com/forum/showthrea...27505&p=510131 episode, Patrick mentioned two websites at which to get HDMI cables.
I'm not looking for "HDMI" but for a simple 50ft long s-video cable to run from my PC's NVidia GeForce 7600 video card to my TV. I wanted to check prices to replace an s-video+3.5mm audio to RCA 3 cable that only delivered the picture in black and white at best. I found http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/svideo/index.htm which is way more expensive than I cared to invest in versus http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 which is possibly worth getting. Patrick made note that lately he doesn't trust monoprice for quality cables over 25 feet so much anymore. Reviews from the cable at monoprice "sound promising" though. Am I likely to see a benefit from trying one of these cables (color added, clearer image, etc...) or is this a cable that Patrick seemed distrustful of? |

S-video is an analog signal. Analog cable runs of that length are going to degrade.
Regardless of who you buy from, keep the receipt - you might be doing a return.

Blue Jeans make some of the best cables you can buy. You'll have to pay them for that quality. And if it makes you feel better they're cheaper than Monster.
Monoprice make quality cheap cables. They meet the required level of standards while having decent build quality. 50ft is the max length of cable you should use from them. Anything longer and you'll need Blue Jeans or Monster build quality. An alternative would be to order 2 S-Video Breakout Adapters from Blue Jeans and then order the needed cables for them from Monoprice. In theory you would get a better quality signal than the standard Monoprice cable but not as good as the high end Blue Jeans cable. |

These work just fine. Though if you don't have an DVI to HDMI dongle: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812186012 This one works perfectly. Its been in near constant use for over a year now, without any issues.

The OP screwed up when he was creating the title ...
If you read his message, instead of the title you find: Quote:

I don't think that a 50 foot long s-video cable will even work without some kind of amplification. You'll be lucky to get any kind of a signal over that kind of a length, and I don't imagine that they are shielded all that much either. You would probably have better luck transmitting your picture over UHF if you're dead set on getting it to work. The only other option would be to move either the TV or the computer closer.
