My own reaction to this is: What the **** is this!?
------------------------------- http://comics.ign.com/articles/998/998855p1.html J. Michael Straczynski to leave Thor in September 'Straczynski clarified that this was not a major dispute between Marvel and himself, that he in fact sought out the publisher with concern that his story would be pulled into a major event, something he wasn't comfortable writing.' On how the creative team will change: "There were no creative differences, no animosity, no rancor... just the question of how to handle being caught in the switches by my own shortcomings and ineptitude. I have to say here that Warren and Dan were absolutely understanding and supportive and gentle with me - there are no horror stories here. [Thor editor Warren Simons and Marvel publisher Dan Buckley] are gentlemen and scholars and the kind of business-men you want to work with, because through it all they remain human beings, and that's rare." No idea on who will be the next team for Thor, but may be annouced at the SDCC later this month. Also, JMS's final issue of Thor will come out as "Thor: Defining Moments Giant Sized". ------------------------------------- Okay I got more then just, 'What the ****!?' on this. A) Obviously Marvel has a huge plan for the fall, but I'm not sure if it's The List series of one-shots they annouced last week. But if it is another event, whether for Thor in general or a universe spanning event, clearly JMS wanted no part of his series involved. Cause why would he suddenly just decide to stop doing his work just because of an event coming his way? Secret Invasion didn't effect the main title and Dark Reign is technically going threw the title right now, but not hammering it on the readers. B) It could mean that JMS is DC exclusive and once he goes to Brave and the Bold....he anit coming back to Marvel. Plus he's got this whole Red Circle revival so he is busy for DC later this year. But I doubt this is the main reason. C) I guess josh and others will finally get back on Thor later this year. Okay that isnt really a main point but I have a feeling the haters are going to rub this one in. What a shame....one of the best Marvel titles to come out in the last year or two is gonna end. Well really not end, but if the next creative team isnt on par with JMS or higher in terms of quality....this title is gonna suffer.

This is somewhat disconcerting because Thor is really the main Marvel Title I am collecting. JMS has done an awesome job.

I don't know whether or not this is JMS' fault, but I was really tired of waiting a long time for each issue to come out. Granted, the delays arent as bad as some of the other horror stories out there (Hulk vs. Wolverine, Ultimates 2, Planetary) but its still a pain to wait longer than usual for the next chapter. What makes it even tougher is that JMS' story is so excellent, that I cant wait to see what happens next.
So is it too much to ask that the next Thor writer can write a high caliber story AND be timely with his scripts?

JMS leaving kinda sucks for me because I didn't start picking up Thor regularly until just three issues ago with 600, but I've been loving everything I've read. The guys at my LCS have been insisting that some very big things are coming down the pipe for Thor later this year and it is a book everyone will want to stay on or start picking up. At Hero's con during the Dark Reign panel fans were asking about whether Steve Rogers and Thor would be coming into play during Dark Reign and Bendis said something like "...has someone hacked my laptop." And I know Marvel is gearing up hype for an Ares miniseries so maybe Thor will have something to do with that.

I think Marvel is going to plan something big for Rogers return later this year. Maybe have an proper Avengers return? It's all speculating but maybe Thor will have a big plan with Reborn.
Again I am really upset over this move. The wait is unbearable, but as comicbookchris stated, no matter how long the wait is each issue is so damn good that the wait is justified. Hopefully this doesnt mean the next 3-4 issues wont feel rushed and JMS has a plan to make this quick exit still have somewhat of an ending. Quote:

Very sad news in my opinion. However, the late problems have sucked. Have they been attributed to JMS?
But the story line has been awesome. Patience is a virtue and all that. I think last week's #602 is my favorite comic of 2009 thus far. The building urgency with each panel plus an appearance by Doc Strange was everything I want in a read. |

Agreed, Thor is by far one of my top characters but the thorspeak gets tough to read.
