Lips and voice out of sync. You get Hong Kong Kung Fu Louie do you video edit?
Also - the "Low" quality video, which I require, has been even LOWER in quality the last week or two. What's up with that. But, I did really enjoy seeing Haren again since I stopped watching DTV because their video feed was only of the High quality variety, which my wimpy DSL chokes on. It will be great if he moves over to Rev3! Truth is, I"d watch Tekzilla if it was only available in a jerky, postage-stamp sized video window, as long as I can hear the information rich audio. Though I would surely miss seeing the beautiful Veronica in as high definition as possible. Damn life is full of quandarys. |

Sorry, that's the old pre-WiMax Clearwire.
The new Clear is currently only in a handful of cities, including Baltimore (Sprint), Portland, Las Vegas and Atlanta. And yes, the mobile WiMax streams while driving in a vehicle around those areas covered, at real world 4Mbps. If you did have WiMax in your city, you'd have the option to use WiMax with a day pass ($10), but unfortunately for NYC, you don't have WiMax. |

Decrypting premium channels is only part of what those cards do. The other part is receiving the mapping of normal cable channel numbers to their corresponding QAM (nn-n) channel numbers from the cable company and passing that on to the host device. Depending on the software you're using, this could be done manually (in fact, there are requests out there to add this to TiVo's CableCard compatible models), but then you have two problems:
- Your cable provider isn't likely to be forthcoming about what the current mappings are, so you'll probably have to figure them out yourself - Those mappings could potentially change at any time, so you'd have to keep up with them |

Robert is exactly right. To pair/associate your cable card with your computer you would have to call your local cable company. Not all cable support reps will know exactly how to do that but they should be able to get someone to help make that happen.
Cable companies will support the cable cards as best as they can but the problem is that not all channels are clear digital broadcast. Some channels in alot of areas are switched. This means they are only broadcast to the customers who are watching them at the time they are being viewed. It's an attempt to help limit bandwidth consumption and increase the available number of channels. This requires a two way card and those aren't available for all equipment. For tivo's there is a special tuner box that can can use the USB connection on the tivo and a two way card in the tuner to get the switched channels. P.S. This is all public info but it's coming form a guy on the inside so just thought it could be useful knownledge. -Chris |

dBPowerAmp is not free for MP3 transcoding, but I bought it and endorse that very fine product.
There is another solution that I use all the time. Winamp. Yeah, I know how 90's of me. Hear me out. They have an iPod sync plugin that allows you to transcode anything over a certain bitrate (say 360) to whatever you choose when you sync. Setting the threshold that high eliminates all the MP3 files you may have. It will only transcode Shorten, Monkey's, FLAC or the like to AAC or MP3 when you sync. Don't expect it to be as snappy as a normal sync. If you are like me, you love the iPod but hate iTunes this should be right up your alley. STEVE JOBS PLEASE ADD SUPPORT FOR A FLAC PLUGIN! How many freeeeeekin' times do I have to ask??????????? |

Excuse me for beating a dead horse, but where's the Systm segment?
In the last video on Systm's page there's a paragraph which says "Systm will no longer be a weekly long format show. It will morph into regular, if shorter, hands on segments that will live inside Tekzilla." So far we've had one 4:17 segment where Patrick showed us what he did earlier to a fridge+cooling equipment+PC, without even showing any video or even stills of the build process. Then two weeks without a peep. Can you give us a definititon of "regular" in the context of Systm segments within Tekzilla? because that show was the only reason I was hanging around on the website/forum, if you can't even give us any real information about what you're doing with Systm apart from saying you might do full episodes in the future but in the meantime we're giving you table scraps in Tekzilla, occasionally, then stop stringing us along with your BS and kill it off completely so I can go and find/do something a bit more constructive than keep checking back in the vague hope you did some real DIY again. P.S. "thank the user" for Hack A Day, Hacked Gadgets, Hack N Mod, in that order.
