Wow related effects

I was think about how to make some wow and other video game related effects. Any ideals?

Particles my man. Particles. After Effects and Motion have some good simulations to get you started, plus you can composite your scene with either tool.

Also you can record some fireworks against a black night and then "screen" or "luma key" the black out in your compositing tool of choice.
