I am buying my first laptop for school in a month or two (getting a maxed out macbook) and I was wondering what the average lifespan of laptops has been for some of you guys. I am getting the Apple care, I am just hoping nothing horrible happens to it in 3 years that won't be covered and that I won't feel the need to upgrade for 3 years.

I've had my Dell for about 3 years and used it in school and then university, I'm going to retire it soon and get something else, not because it's broken or anything's wrong with it but more that I want something new.
I'd say 3-5 years for a laptop if you treat it really well, 2-3 if not.

An Apple should last you until you're ready to buy a new machine as long as you take care of it.

its all about how good you take care of it... i bought myself an hp entertainment for gaming/replacing desktop/school purposes and i keep it clean cool etc... i shut it down when i dont use it for longer then 1 hour [as in if im gona be afk for more then an hour or god knows how long i will shut the dam thing down rather then leaving it in screensaver or standby mode for x hours].... and ive been thinking of having a pro clean this laptop in and out once or twice a year so that the inside isnt all dirty and full of dust... good idea or bad?

Why would you not use it for more than an hour at a time, that seriously makes no sense at all.

if you read better you would see that i said that if i was planing on not using the pc or laptop in this case past the hour time i would shut it down rather then keeping it on when i know i wont be using it for the next few hours... eg of this would be when i go to sleep...

But - shutting it down isn't always a good thing for it. Powering on and off the battery in most cases is harder on it than just leaving it on. |

Cool, I am just hoping it will last my 4 years of school, or at least 3 of them. I hope apple releases leopard this month or next so I can get my macbook.
