Default Best. Storylines. Eva!

Saw this over at CBR/Comics Should Be Good -
http://goodcomics.comicbookresources...ok-storylines/

It's a poll of the 100 best comic book storylines. Just wondering what the iFanbase counts among their favorite storylines.

The rules at the link should hold here, I think - should be a complete storyline with a 12-issue limit (unless otherwise noted during publication); can be a crossover event (i.e. Manifest Destiny) or a mini (or maxi) series (Watchmen and Dark Knight *); no stand-alone GNs (sorry!) - check the link for clarification.

I'm not compiling a list or anything - go vote at CBR for that - just interested in what stories you folks think hold up over time.

* And we all know Watchmen and Dark Knight are amazing - how about thinking outside the box a little.

A couple of mine were:

Angelville from Preacher
Dangerous Habits from Hellblazer
Ten Nights of the Beast from Batman - still my favorite underrated Batman story
Millar's first Authority arc with the faux Avengers
JLA: Tower of Babel by Mark Waid

My favorite under-rated batman story is the first Batman/Grendel crossover. So awesome.
Tower of Babel is what made me interested in the JLA after never reading them before.
And the Angelville story in preacher was great.

I never read Ten Nights of the beast. What's that about?

Best comic story ever? Easy. The story where Aunt May and Franklin Richards fight Galactus with magic Twinkies.

I agree. And I rarely EVER hear anyone talk about that book! I love Wagner's Batman!

It was the last multi-issue storyline before Death in the Family. I can't really remember the details as to the hows and whys, but Batman ends up facing a Russian assassin named the KGBeast (hey, it was the mid 80s) who is just about his equal. The ending and the "fate" of the KGBeast just rocked my world. Some amazing, AMAZING Jim Aparo art in this, just beautiful, classic Batman panels. Also some awesome Mike Zeck covers, too.

I found these four issues in one of my 'forgotten' comic boxes during a recent purge and immediately dug them out and added them to the "to read" pile. Probably the first Batman story that I fell in love with (predates my reading of DK, Killing Joke, or other Batman classics) and really saw just how Batman-y Batman can be.

I believe it was once collected in a trade, but is out of print according to Amazon. Highly recommended if you ever happen to come across it.

I've got the Batman/Grendel trade on my shelf to read. I remember reading some of this back when it originally came out, but can't really remember the details. I do like the idea of Wagner writing Batman and Hunter Rose in the same story.

Man, I wanna go read some comics now. Damn you work!!!!

I love you forever. The Batman/Grendel crossover is GREAT. I liked both but I assume you meant the first one. The first one, I LOVE.

But I'm slightly obsessed. I would probably put a number of Grendel related arcs on my list. Behold the Devil was top notch, Devil's Hammer was great. Devil's Reign, Devil Within, Devil Child... ahem.

Dangerous Habits is definitely one of my favorites. Bill Sink-o-Wits' STRAY TOASTERS... Ted McKeever's MOTROPOL (Possibly his Industrial Gothic, as well...).. Brian Woods LOCAL... Ellis' Fell: FERAL CITY... D:

Has there ever been a BAD Grendel story? How come Grendel and/or Grendel Tales is NEVER mentioned as one of the bets comics ever? It really is fantastic. In fact, Grendel is what got me reading comics again.

I had stopped reading comics in the 90s, with a lot of other people, when the quality of the writing just plummeted and everything was about foil covers and cards and crap. But a buddy of mine still bought them and I went with him to the comic store one day. I saw two comics that caught my eye: Grendel Tales: Homecoming #1 and Harlan Ellison's Dream Corridor #1. I had a couple bucks on me so I bought both of them. And that is when i realized "Oh, there are still good comics! They just aren't being published by Marvel or DC!"
