I know this thread is way outdated but I just found AnimeTV on my Windows Media Center.
In the episode when talking about Ghost in the Shell: 2.0 Johnathan emphasizes how GITS is an iconic series and a must see for any anime lover, he mentions several sci fi titles that are based off of it. "matrix is based off it, I Robot ... any film where there is souls inside of a robot body are based off of it" Just an FYI - "I Robot" is based off the Issac Asimov collection of short stories from the 50's of the same name. And as "Do Robots Dream of Electric Sheep" (the novel by Phillip K. Dick which Blade Runner is based on) was penned in the late 60's it is more likely/accurate to say that both GITS and Blade Runner were, on some level, inspired by "I Robot". I don't disagree that GITS is a seminal work in Anime - just wanted to clarify that I Robot is not a derivative of GITS - its just the opposite. Last edited by windasani : 08-28-2010 at 08:12 PM. |

Wow, people are still finding out about AnimeTv... I already made a post concerning my surprise, so instead lets get on with it.
Yeah, I know - Issac Asimov is one of my favorite authors, now Jonathan was thinking in the odern idea of I Robot with Will Smith, not looking further back. As for me, I meant that it was the earlier cyberpunk movies - like blade runner where I can see the influences played on Ghost In The Shell (Then again just about every future seems to have some sort of co-dominance with Japan and America or America and China - at least to me) just to clear things up we werent stating that Issac Asimov came AFTER GITS, nor are we saying that through some complex loophole, Asimov saw the future and this movie and used it as a jumping off point.... actually I would READ a story like that... cool. We're fans, some would say to the extreme level - and that is mostly true - all I am saying is excelsior! |
