Default almost, but not quite what we want

Hey,
I've been an anime fan for as long as i can remember and have been looking forward to this ever since i heard it mentioned on TRS. Haveing watched 1 episode I gotta say I'm disappointed, I agree mostly with what fath0m has said. You don't need to be a preteen to enjoy anime so I don't understand why this show treats its viewers as such. I enjoyed the parts where they discused anime, to me its the meat of this show. But all the flash and a.d.d. inspired antics that we are foced to endure are an obstacle to enjoying this show. I really hope these guys get there act together, I have been waiting for an anime show since forever. But is this 'the' anime show we've all been waiting for, mabey, if the hosts matured 5 years it would be.

I definitely preferred season one to the start of season two but it's only been an episode so far and I'm looking forward to what other things they'll try, but I do like the free chat they added in. But that dub clip of Shippuuden you guys sneaked in there just made my ears bleed.

I definitely agreed with the two guys to the right (Miley and Roy) about Naruto. Naruto is 1/10th awesome and 9/10ths snorefest. Why can't they make that anime more action packed? Naruto is disappointing to me; I can't believe he is either the strongest ninja or one of them, and yet, he is still a Genin. Naruto is just bizarre.
And it's because of that, that I don't much pay attention to the anime anymore. I much more prefer the manga of both Naruto and Bleach (and many more series). But like most anime, you either like it or don't. Simple as that. The sad thing is that VIZ who has done some good dubs over time, has failed with their Bleach, Naruto, and Death Note dubs. (I blame casting, never the voice actors).

I can agree with you on Naruto. I have only really seen Death Note on Hulu, so as a sub. But I have to disagree on Bleach. On that, can we get Michelle Ruff to do an ad as well?

To the guys above me talking about Naruto Ship. being a snorefest. Have you guys skipped the filler?

I quit watching naruto as well for awhile came back and looked up all the filler episode numbers and skipped them. Doing this has GREATLY enhanced Naruto for me, no fluff all plot. From episode 100-140ish I literally thought they were trying to build up into a season finale because of how many questions they were answering (old old naruto plot points, lots of action). Anyway, like I am telling all my other friends who quit naruto, make sure to look up filler episodes and give it another try now that they are well documented.

-Roy-

Yea Gundam Seed was just a recent one I watched with a friend. I haven't seen a ton of Gundams only Wing and seed, and my friend tells me the original Gundam is much more hardcore and I should watch it. Problem with Gundams is there are just so many, I get overwhelmed with choices and end up not watching any of them. Also one thing I appreciated from Seed was the deaths. I hate when an anime refuses to kill off characters.

Wing and Robotech were my shit though in intermediate school on Toonami.

EDIT
Also I wanted to clear up something that may be a little fuzzy. Its not that I don't want humor in the show, its that perhaps for me, less jokes would be better. For instance, if next episode you came in wearing a domo costume, the joke would not land with me (I expect it). However, if the show is more serious, light hearted moments like this one would be much more amusing because its out of character. I guess what I am trying to say (in a very roundabout way) is that comedic timing is largely based on mood and constant sillyness causes a sort of "white noise" on humor. You become so used to it it isn't funny, its typical...expected.

While I've got to say, the show was pretty good to start, I have some major issues that would keep me from watching if they keep coming up.

For one, I can't stand the “Oh Kakashi will marry me,” dribble or “KAWAI DESU DESU DESUUU.”
The majority of anime fans are not like this. I understand it's a large market, but it's also fickle and prone to leaving the anime area rather quickly. I quit my anime club in College because of people that constantly acted like that. I understand fanboyism, I'm a video game journalist, so I know the whole PS3 vs Xbox or PC vs Mac kind of debate, but this stuff is so annoying and has gone to the level that it has ruined one of my favorite conventions. Hell, the chances of me going back to that convention are slim to none because of this. Naruto had a part with that too, of course, but it's this annoying drooling that doesn't make for good conversation, it makes you look moronic and kills your talking points.

Please, PLEASE tone it down! I want this show to succeed, but the level of obnoxious perpetuating negative stereotypes gives anime fans a bad name. We'll see how the next few episodes turn out before I make a final choice.

My friend Toonami was just a small step into a much Bigger world. As for Gundam, it can be a little confusing, so if you really want a good crash course/simplification of all things Mecha, I would have to say the easiest way to view gundam is not by series, but by universe.

Gundams that take place in the Universal Century timeline/universe has a very overarching storyline and is very linear starting with Mobile Suit Gundam. Working up from there is rather easy.

Tomino (Creator) was aswesome with his storytelling long before G came into picture whether it be Pepero or Wandering Sun, his stories had a real truth to them. Gundam is such a story in which the giant robo isnt a gift, but a weapon, and it is viewed as little more than that. But that brutal idea of war is what brings everything to the forefront. Either way I am glad you are stepping into Anime. I hope you enjoy the trip.

Oh yea,Roy, you referenced your blog a number of times. I looked up the anime TV blog, was that the one you meant?

Also, I would say I have already stepped into anime haha. Toonami was close to 10 years ago or so for me. There has been way to many anime viewings since then, just never got into Gundams.

The thing I would really like to see this show do is inform me of the developments in anime that happen behind my back. The new season of Haruhi Suzumiya, Eden of the East's movies, Gurren Lagann's movie, all the anime that I don't hear about until years later like Black Lagoon, Glass Maiden, and Tekkonkinkreet. I don't think anyone much other than little kids are going to watch this show if two of the show's hosts are obsessed with Naruto in a way that they are clothed in it. To be honest, I love the manga, especially the distortion-free scanlations, up until the Akatsuki era, but it's turned to crap. The anime has been crap since the Naruto-Sasuke fight on both sides of the fence, but the dubbed version was never good. The girl talking about X and the guy talking about Kenichi seem much more knowledgeable.

I agree with your sentiment about wishing there was a way to follow anime up-to-date, I will however disagree about the shippuden anime . However, I don't think the show necessarily has to focus on whats new and hot in anime. Maybe do a quick rundown of what is coming out/came out that month? Perhaps make it a segment of anime in 90 secs or so. Could be amusing to hear people have to condense things and spit them out quickly, it also leaves you the opportunity to review what you gloss over in a later episode.
