The first movie is great. Dont bother with the second one its just bad. The movie is based off the manga and is slowly coming out in the U.S. Ive only been able to read the first 3 volumes and it truly an amazing story. Its the only manga that actually had me upset and depressed after reading it. There is a lot of raw human emotion in the manga and it really give you an amazing look on what happen during WWII in Japan at least at this guys perspective. It a hard manga to get a hold of but if you do see it get it! It really is one of a kind.

I didn't like the Escaflowne movie compared to the anime series as much.

I must say that my favorites are "Samurai X": Trust and Betrayal. Reflections is also good. My favorite Studio Ghibli films are Grave of the Fireflies, Only Yesterday, Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. also Pom Poko is a guilty pleasure of mine and why have I not watched Howl's Moving Castle??? I really want to see Dog of Flanders and Barefoot Gen but have yet to purchase them. Ponyo is something I hope to buy soon because of its recent release in the US. Akira is great but honestly it wasn't as amazing as many had led me to believe. I completely had forgotten about Tokyo Godfathers but I am now adding that to the list.

I don't watch anywhere near as many anime films as I do shows, however I don't I could even pretend that it is a tough choice. My favorite is by far Ghost in the Shell.

This was the first anime film that really hooked me, (along with Akira), to Anime as a whole.
Ghost in the Shell speaks to me on so many levels. Being a big William Gibson fan and a Trans-humanist, Ghost in the Shell, (the original film specifically, but also everything else ever made in that universe and under the title), epitomizes my culture.

- Princess Mononoke
- Nausicaa in the Valley of the Wind
- Kiki's Delivery Service
- The Place Promised in Our Early Days
- Voices of a Distant Star
- Be With You (Live Action, but based off a novel, which was made into an anime...)
- Death Note Live Action movies

My favorite anime movie isn't very original but it's true. My favorite anime movie is Akira, followed by Ghost in the Shell. Those were the first anime vhs tapes i ever bought back in the day.

As for ones that haven't been mention before,
these are all pretty new except for the one Eva one I'm sure you can figure it out:
End of Evangelion (obligatory)

Rebuild of Evangelion (not a bad remake of the NGE episodes)

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya (Kyoani's amazing production, and it's Haruhi)

Kara no Kyoukai (amazing animation, great action, decent plot)

Sword of the Stranger (good enough to receive a recommendation)

GTO live action movie (should watch the GTO live action drama as they kinda link together, but can stand alone)

As for the Shonen Jump anime movies (ie. Bleach, One piece, Naruto)
They aren't bad per se but you might as well read/watch the manga/anime, because it's much better.
