Default Civilization V announced

I know I remember Dan talking about how much time he spent on Civ 4 and how he would be up at all hours of the night playing it. That's what got me into playing it and I've spent countless hours playing it since.

But lately I've been wanting more out of it and started adding mods and hoping for Civ 5. I don't have to hope anymore because today they announced it would be out later this fall!

Really nice!!!! I just restarted playing Civ4 this week, I love so much those kind of strategy games. My top3 in that kind (no order, love them all each one got a certain aspect better than the others):

-Medieval II: Total War (play mosty grand_campaign mod, kind of combine the expansions maps and civ with the world map, really cool, love the combats in real time with great graphics)

-Civilization IV (only have till beyond the sword expansion, not the lastest, didn't try any mod so far)

-Europa Universalis III (biggest game of the 3 maps and choice wise but with the worse graphics. But that game is so huge, more than 1000 territories, 100 civs many diplomatics options and jsut liek the 2 previous, playing a single game can takes tons of hours, mabye even more than the 2 others.)

Huge Civ fan, one of the few games I can plug 20+ hours in one sitting without looking at a clock and when I do I can not tell you where the time went.

can't wait for civ5
all the latest details are up on civfanatics.com

the new hexagonal tiles looks interesting and in some of the pictures it looks like culture can spread in an nonuniform way, maybe ya can choose how your culture will spread
also, in another picture u can see archers shooting at enemies that are 2 hexagons away, it would be awesome to actually have ranged units. Some people say thats not realistic, i say fuck that, archers attacking from melee range, thats not realistic

well they were not attacking melee... u can see if u attack they will first shoot arrow... mabye miss and then will melee vs melwe guy, otherwise they shoot arrow (in Civ4)

Started playing Civ4 again 2 weeks ago... Im now really bad at that game... I get my ass kicked a Warlord lvl, I try to make friendly with 1-2 civ next to me, a 3rd one attack me , I can handle it and its a good fight, but there more decided to attack me, and since friendly civ allow them to walk in their territories Im attacked on evey front...

http://www.civfanatics.com/
has some more info on civ5, they have some summaries of previews that have come out listed on the front page. Also some extra details in included links.

things i liked:
  • basic units can move 2 squares
  • ranged units can shoot over units, lakes, etc.
  • can only have 1 unit per square
  • no more tech trading
