Anyone else think that the video of Ryan's stand up looked "off" or not that great? I thought the episode was good.

Ryan, a few years back many people in the scuba world knocked B&H, because they sold gray market underwater photography gear. Have you checked their warranties on the video gear?

Default DSLR review left me wanting

Great piece, as far as it went. But, anyone, like me, who is interested enough in film making to invest in an HD DSLR wants to know two other things.
How good is the sound quality? Will I need a separate audio recorder?
How well can I control depth of field? Which, in my opinion, is more important to a "film look" than 24fps.

internal sound on the DSLR's is pretty bad, or hard to manage. You should definitely get an external sound recording device.

It's also pretty hard to control the depth of feel if you are shooting with the aperture all the way open. But when lit properly it isn't too hard.

i've also heard canon, zeiss, and other lens companies are working on cine-type lenses for the hdslrs

Check out the previous episodes for dslr (the last three) I cover the audio in those.

The depth of field is a little on the hard side, due to how fast the focus ring is, (since it is for photography not film) but with a little practice you can get it down pretty good. I was pulling all the focus myself and only missed a few times. Zeiss has some more filmming appropriate lenses, which makes pulling the focus a bit easier.
