If decrypting a Blu-ray disk is the illegal part, wouldn't decrypting for personal use (i put my ISOs on my NAS so that I don't need a Blu-ray drive in every PC) be illegal, and wouldn't ripping but keeping the encryption (an option in AnyDVD HD) then sharing the encrypted ISO online be legal?

This doesn't seem right to me. I'm pretty sure its the distribution of the content that is illegal.

They're both illegal (in the US). The first one because of the DMCA, the second one because of standard copyright law. Even if you leave the image encrypted, thus not violating the DMCA, you still do not have the permission of the content owner to distribute the movie.

Blacking out a room?
You can do what my roommate and I did in college... duct tape cardboard over the windows behind the closed miniblinds so it doesn't look too trashy from the inside haha
Who ever looks out of windows anyways? Computer/TV is so much better than the real world!

Best way to block out light from windows? Well that's easy if you live in hurricane alley. We are using storm/security roll down shutters at our home. Our theater room was converted after we built our home from an upstairs living room with an old rear projection television to a large dedicated 14 foot front projection theater room. Since we don't use the room for anything else besides viewing sporting events, watching movies, or big TV events we just leave the shutters rolled down all the time. The shutters have been the perfect solution as the room has some very large windows. Blocking out the light was always a concern for me when converting to a dedicated theater room. Only drawback is they are manual roll down and not the fancy motorized shutters. There is no automation of roll up or down when turning on the system. On the plus side the shutters being down all the time has had a significant cut on our heating and cooling bill!

Default Compression in The Pacific

To answer Robert's question, there is compression in the rapid battle scenes on Verizon FiOS, as well. Would be interested to know what cameras they used to record the show.
