Light! Evil or Misunderstood?

So, let's hear it! Was Light from Death Note really an Evil character, or something else? I'd like to hear what your thoughts are.

im sure in the eyes of society Light would be evil being that he killed people which is frowned upon in this society, though given the same opportunity id have done the same thing that he did, so him being evil doesnt really bother me

LOL i think he was misunderstood child. near the tail end before he died (spoiler) he did got a little careless on what he was doing.

I think he starts out as basically a more violent version of Batman (more violent in the sense he kills people) but SPOILERS he eventually takes it too far and believing the crazy myths about Kira.

I couldn't agree more. I feel that up until SPOILERS: he killed Roy Penbar, he was a well meaning vigialante for the most part. How's that saying go? Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I think the main reason we even question whether he is evil is because is the protagonist of the story. If the story followed L from the beginning and focused on him more then Light would be the clear villain. However the show start starts with Light and invests him so then L, the obvious hero, actually becomes the obstacle that needs to be overcome.

I believe he starts out misunderstood then toward the end gets evil. He was corrupted by the power of the Death Note.
