Default Is it a console seller (late in the console cycle)?

Gweedz was a bit surprised that anyone would still be asking this question these days, surely people have made their decision.

A lot of gamers committed to one or two systems early on (most people seemed to go with Wii + (Xbox360 or PS3)). Also, never rule out the possibility of new gamers!

I'm a PC gamer and I don't have any current generation consoles (just a PS2 I barely got any games for), but I'm open to the possibility of getting a console. There's a number of games I have interest in but none of them alone have convinced me to get a console, but as the consoles go on sale and my list gets bigger the chance I'll be a late console purchaser increases.

Here is my list (pretty much in chronological order of when I became aware of them):
Beautiful Katamari (360) or Katamari Forever (PS3)
Flower (PS3)
Assassin's Creed 2 (now available on PC... but is it a good idea with Mouse/Keyboard?)
Splosion Man (360)
Heavy Rain (PS3)
Alan Wake (360)

None of these games are 'must have' for me, but if I could get all of them on one console I would probably own that console by now.

Similarly, if some of them got ported to PC it might lessen my interest in getting a console :-)

I'm the pretty much same way, but I have a ton of games for my PS2. 'Course being a broke 18 year old doesn't really help the situation xD.

im heavily considering the 120 quid for a 360 arcade so i can play alan wake, if one of my mates were selling thier xbox id snap it up, that being said cashflow is a major problem as im paying off an s3 just now, once my a3 is sold ill have the free cash to go for it

I'm thinking there are games that may be system sellers, but for them to really make an impact that way they aren't going to be niche games like Heavy Rain, Alan Wake, etc. It'll be games like the recent God of War III (BTW, did that seem to affect PS3 sales at all? That'd be interesting) or the upcoming Halo: Reach and Gears of War III.

Hmm... I know there's some people that are wondering if maybe they SHOULD have gotten a Wii for SMG2...

Games like Uncharted 2 and God of War are flashy and have that 'wow factor', but they're also kinda 'play through once' deals.

I wonder what moves consoles the most... flashy/wow games (Uncharted, God of War) long/replayable games (Red Dead, Final Fantasy) party games (Rock Band, Mario Kart) or the niche/'that's new' (Heavy Rain) multiplayer games (Halo, Moderner Warfare).

You're question is interesting, and kind of answers itself when you think about it. I think the audiences they're going after these days is so varied that you have to have these multiple niches. You're seeing these huge tent pole releases going more and more towards multi-platform so the developers can maximize their profit, that you're going to see more 'niche' games as 'console sellers'.

And when you think about it....aren't Games in general moving away from being considered console sellers? I mean how many people NOW are buying a console JUST for a game? With the consoles turning into All-In-One multimedia boxes, it seems the people who would be buying a console this late in the cycle wouldn't be doing so strictly for a big gaming title.

Cool

I think at this point what moves a console the best is when one breaks and you replace it. Nintendo has had some dire news because the Wii isn't outselling it's numbers from last year. That's a strange way to interpret the numbers in my opinion. At a certain point you reach saturation and have to start looking at software sales. Any Wii's sold at all is a good thing but it's sold enough to keep the company in gold for 10 years.

The only console sellers are Nintendo games to me. It is the only studio with a console as well. Sega used to have console sellers as well.
