Fresh Pasta is really easy and very good. You may need some new equipment but it is worth it.

I do have a pasta machine, but most of the time i just make rustic pasta than can be made very easily with just a knife and a rolling pin which is usually faster for me.

Trenette (eggless pasta) 1 cup flour,- 1/3 cup water.and a touch of oil.maybe salt

Well this is a rather open-ended question. I make bready things of all sorts from scratch. If it is baked and a bready thing, I've probably made it from scratch.

Something I can't believe people buy is biscuit mix. So easy to make at home.

I agree completely. we have not had a "mix" in forever. Doing things from scratch kind of gets you in touch with your heritage also. Though I have made both yeast and soda breads, I have never made bagels, but plan, to ,one of these days.

Default Doing it from scratch

I guess this question sums up what the whole show is about! Sure there is stuff like ketchip and may in the show but there are also lots of simple little recipes that people would normaly go out and buy. Things like the burgers for example...Why go out and buy them for like $10 when you can make them at home and they are super easy and straight forward! Making stuff from scratch is not always easy (busy with work etc) but it is incredibly satsifying, cheap and fun to do, give it a go some time.

Oh and I suggest bread! Nothing better than that!

Cheers

My ketchup and mustard were not as good to me as what I buy. I do make everything else but not every time a recipe calls for that ingredient. After you have learned how and tasted the difference then you can decide when it is time to compromise.

Yeah as I said, You MAY have to get new equipment. Me? I do not have that equipment. I do it rustic as well.

Roll it nice and thin and slice it as thin as possible, universally good. For the recipe, just a lil' bit of olive oil. Teaspoon maybe less.

Chef Niall is right. Simple things like burgers are expensive. To be honest I have never paid for a burger that I was truly happy with, for the money.

For things like Ketchup, I have never made that. But as the complaints came in because he used it for chili, I was baffled. Sure I never heard of it but I have used ketchup for slow cooking, ie. better beef stew than Dinty Moore can ever be. So I was not surprised.

This all applies. Biggest mistake I made, inviting my Dad over for the chili con carne. He loved it, told my Brothers, hence I was making it for their families that week. They all swear off the canned stuff forever.

Worse than that. I went to my dads' house to make the Caesar Chicken Sandwiches. OOPS!

My Nieces Christening was coming up and my Father ratted me out again. Upon request, I picked up all of the stuff, made the ingredients on my Brothers' grill and set them out. Two kinds of dressing. One with Worcester (thanks boards for that addition) and one with lemon. That was what split the families' tastes. Luckily, they ate it so fast I didn't have time to drink too much when they sent me out to do it again.

OK, I did not only cause it was my Niece, but I am the Godfather. I had to. Plus my older Nieces tried and liked it only because Uncle Frankie made it. Happiest moment ever.

Like Chef Niall said, it is cheap, easy and so rewarding. When you eat good food made by you, you will never be happier.

This all mattered 'cause my family is calling me the "from scratch guy." I thought it was because this rash I can't shake, but no it is the food. (sanitary nuts will love that joke huh?)
