There was no formal discussion thread so we can hang out here until there is I suppose.
French onion soup is one of my favorite dishes to prepare and eat. I was shocked not to see a huge slab of pork belly poking out of Niall's soup bowl though. Pretty much spot on although I do not use chicken stock or beef stock I use consomme. One thing to note. This is generally not something would serve as a meal. It is great for a dinner soup course or with a sandwich for lunch. |

I've had french onion soup numerous times before, and I've never seen it with bacon. Maybe it's a regional thing for you?

It is a bit odd that he didn't put a meat in his French Onion Soup after seeing how he has a hard time cooking without it. I guess he was trying to stay true to the original.
