As I point out in my comment in here, I think that having a task cleanup team to help organize the tasks would be beneficial to Dan 3.0. The idea is simple: a team of either Revision3 employees or known, trustworthy voluntaries dig trough all tasks, fixing the task's size, merging with repeated ones, etc. This would go while the search engine isn't done or while the team is considered highly necessary.
I think such team would allow the number of pages existent to highly reduce (I predict between 20 and 100 pages, perhaps?), thus allowing an easier browsing and a more reliable idea of the number of people supporting each idea (because instead of having each idea's votes scattered, these would be focused on a single task). What do you think? Last edited by radicallyblue : 08-13-2010 at 10:27 PM. |

I'd like to volunteer for such a team, because I think it's exactly what D3p0 needs.

It would be great if anyone could just suggest tasks be connected
Such as, if I notice there are two tasks about the environment, I could post a link or something that would appear as part of the description of both tasks. OMG or that you could tag tasks with things such as 'dan's hair' or 'road trip' or more general things like 'environment' (which would make the search engine more possible) Does that make sense? (its three in the morning, so its possible I'm not even writing this in English xD) |

I do feel like merging would be a bit difficult. All you could really do would be link to other similar tasks in the comments or something.
I think the main thing a team like this would be good for would be deletion. Yes, I know radicallyblue said no deletion, but if we could, like apply and the mods could watch us for a while to know we can be trusted, we could really help weed out trolling ideas! (btw, with this post, I was officially upgraded from "newbie" to "member"!! Woo!) Last edited by syreeninsapphire : 08-18-2010 at 04:23 PM. |

I think that it has to be looked at as merging, not deletion.
With merging, all of the votes for the merged tasks would be consolidated. This way, you don't lose any valuable votes. As for trolling tasks, it is a gray area. Who is to say whether a task is reasonable or not? The only ones making this type of decision should be the voters. ![]() |

You would have to set up a whole different system for merging though. Both URL's would have to point to the same task. You should need approval from both users to merge them, because some people won't want it merged because they think one is worded better and so on and so forth. The comments would need to be merged. If the tasks were even slightly different you can't merge them because, well, the details are different and that's what people are voting on. And then you hit the major snag of exactly how to merge the wording. Which task gets to be the one that keeps its title/description? Who gets credit for it? (because most people really do have a sense of pride about that sort of thing. They want Dan to say their name when listing a task if theirs won.) So you would pretty much have to give dual credit. And the tasks would have to show up under "my tasks" for both users.
I think the merging tasks thing is far to logistically complicated, and the new search function may render it unnecessary, for the most part. If you really want, maybe there should be something where, when you type the title of your task, it searches for similar tasks and shows them before you submit yours, so you can see if something already exists. |

The tasks DO need to be organized. I believe that Dan said he is hiring a secretary...perhaps they will handle this.
I also like the recent suggestion of being able to resubmit tasks with 20 or more positive votes.(after ten days or so...) |

I don't think merging tasks, where two tasks that are the same get put together, and their votes summed up, because sometimes I see the same task twice, and vote it up twice. If merging is done, care need to be taken to ensure that everyone who voted for both tasks before, now only have one vote towards the newly emergent task.
Merging is a good idea, but I would hate to inflate certain tasks. |

I think it's a great idea to merge in some sort of fashion. I think the "merge team" would need to have the power to decide what gets merged and what doesn't based on the info proposed. They could list each person as the proposer so we would all know it's a multiple proposed task. It may upset a few people but I dont' see how any sort of organizing could be done without upsetting anyone. And poor Dan needs it to be better organized, the poor guy is so stressed. (Danielle has had a nice calming effect it seems however.) Organize it for his mental health and there's plenty of volunteers to help weed through them. I would volunteer because he's breakin' my heart with his stress levels.

jmejia brings up an important point. I have personally voted for multiple similar tasks because I'm not sure which one will get popular. If we merge the ideas, then I suddenly have more than one vote for the merged task.
