Default Episode 8 - Green Power [Discussion]

The environmentally friendly Joe Geniuses in this episode sure know how to go green! They build emission-free vehicles to get around town, design homemade wind turbines, and use pedal generators to power some of life's amenities.

Since, for some reason, it's only showing up on the RSS feeds and not on the show page, check out episode 8 early!

Minor nit pick here. Joe mentions that the sun is a fusion reactor that is over one million miles long, and that "these Joe Geniuses are harnessing all this power..."

The Earth gets less than 1% of the energy from the sun, and photovoltaic cells have a 45% efficiency at best (commercially available stuff is closer to 6-10%).

So that means these Joe Geniuses are actually getting all the power for their cars by harnessing a fraction of a fraction of the power produced by the sun. Far, far more impressive.

Also, light doesn't contain energy, it is energy.

I know the guy who built the Pyramid Car, and I don't know if you're giving it too much credit but it is basically a golf cart with a couple solar panels and a fancy body on top of it.
