There's a big difference between music and movie producers here. While I can't think of any movie producer who wouldn't be at least a bit disgruntled if you watched his movie only on a tiny screen, todays music producers are actively producing their stuff for bad mp3 compression rates, radio play and tiny earplugs.
As a musician, I loathe it. As a consumer, I hate it. There's loudness filters everywhere and no dynamics anymore. I just hope that movies don't go that way as more people watch them on their phones.
I have been told that Hollywood producers already mainly shoot their movies with home TV setups in mind instead of the big screen. Luckily there's a trend towards Blu-Ray and other high-definition in home theaters.
