So I've recently switched over from my old piece of shit Toshiba laptop to my shiny, pretty, and much better Macbook Pro
I want to get an external hard drive to back up, and unfortunately Time Machine is out of my price range. This http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822154207 was one that I was looking at but I'm not sure if it works for both Mac and PC. That's more on the cheaper side but I was looking at Best Buy and they had a WD external hard drive. http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/...d5a397b 3en02 that I was looking at. Then I noticed almost the exact same one, http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/...b60af57 den02 but it said 'for Mac.' Does that make a difference? The first one said that is was PC/Mac compatible. What makes the second one so special? I tried searching the message board and I got a lot of helpful information regarding brands, but nothing concerning Mac vs PC. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Jessica |

Recently i have found that several drives come formatted as NTFS, which is great if you are using a Windows box. We have a mixed home here. In the past most drives were formatted for FAT32, which can be written/read by both Windows and OS X. OS X can read NTFS, but can't write to it.
That is the main difference between most of those drives. (Yes, there are ways to work around this but there are no Apple or MS options right now.) |
