I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed with the Fallout: New Vegas review. You guys didn't even get to Vegas, and somehow you guys thought you could give this game an honest review? Yes, I know the game has technical issues, but I never experienced anything game-breaking on the PC version.

I wish the review would've been pushed back another week or two, but I know that you guys are under pretty strict schedules, with all the reviews and stuff you have to make.

I have a feeling that Dan and Jeff, though especially Jeff, will fall in love with this game once they get to Vegas. The story in New Vegas is leagues better than the story in Fallout 3.

And at the very least, you guys could give us your updated feelings on New Vegas in a later episode.

Just sayin'!

When I heard about the myriad of bugs and crashes I immediately thought "omg another horrible PC port" but it's the 360 version? Someone needs a talking to. Maybe you need to update the 360 drivers oh ho ho.

Been meaning to give Fallout 3 a try as soon as Steam decides to get all nutty about it.

I got pretty into Oblivion - is there really no option to play in 3rd person?

The battle mechanic would be well suited for pads/phones. On my PC I think I'd be with Alex in thinking that it just wasn't a good FPS. I mean in Oblivion one of my favorite bits was the combat. However, I think I could get into the strategery.

Ironic because I wish the game had been pushed back a month or two. The console version (360, at least) is seriously broken.

Been playing PC and have encountered a few bugs. Scorpions teleporting out of a container all of a sudden to attack me, a merchant crashing the game when I tried to purchase playing cards, a radiated guy frozen in place . . . other than that not too bad.

I'm level 13 I think . . . Guns, sneak, lockpick are my tag skills

There are a few things that are different in new vegas. You don't get a perk every level like in F3 . . . you can add mods to weapons like extended magazines, scopes, silencers, extended barrels, etc . . . you can use a "reloader station" to break down ammo and create different ammo . . . there's an armor system . . . med & heavy armor slows you down . . . there are different types of ammo . . . Guns skill covers ALL firearms that use bullets . . . there are reading magazines that you can pick up and carry that give a temp +10 bonus to a skill (handy when you get something to 65 you can then spend a few on other skills because you can use a magazine to hit that 75 requirement when needed like lockpicking - - the magazines also help when you are talking to someone and need 1-10 pts more to get that speech requirement high enough for a new dialogue choice) . . . using the survival skill you can cook at campfires (haven't used that) . . . there is a reputation system so if you kill too many of a group, it will change the whole group's attitude against you . . . the interface to control your followers is improved (I have two at the moment) . . . when you use healing things other than a stimpack, it heals over time instant of giving you an instant bonus . . . the weapons use a little different sight system using the hard instead of generic crosshairs . . . the recipes to make items have been extended by a thing or too . . . explosives seem a bit more pricey and grenades do a lot more damage it seems . . .

that's all that comes to mind right now. So far I've been exploring the southern area's as i run into them and not really following the story line real close yet . . . I will start before I get too much higher in level.

Compared to F3 - So far I like 3 better . . . but in a post above it says you need to get to vegas so I probably will (for some reason i just heard "Get your ass to vegas" total recall style)

I do get a kick out of the music and hearing "What's his name" making the broadcast . . .

I would recommend waiting till they have an update or patch . . . but so far it feels like an expansion they rushed out so they could maybe catch that western-ish feel for those who are done playing red dead redemption . . .

Question for those playing - When I run into someone wearing armor, it's hard as hell to take em out . . . is there a special ammo set (armor piercing doesn't seem to do squat) or is it a particular gun . . . targeting limbs in vats doesn't seem to help (like head shots) . . . just feels like I'm missing something or doing something wrong. I am playing the difficult setting so that might be it . . . just curious is all. Thanks in advance.

Fallout: New Vegas, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, Medal of Honor and Fable III - all massive releases and all a bit disappointing?

Certainly seems that way. I think I've probably had enough of the worlds of Fable and Fallout through the previous games. If they'd made some major changes, I might have been interested, but it just sounds like more of the same. No interest in MoH if it's not up to the standard of Call of Duty.

From the reviews, I'm personally most disappointed in Force Unleashed II. The first one was pretty good, with a great story, so the potential was there (like with Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed) for the sequel to be a step up to a really great game. But I guess they didn't make it. Shame.

Default New Vegas bogus

I have beat the pc version which I found very buggy at first. A thing I have learned about games like this on the pc is the large fan base. So I head on over to the New Vegas Nexus and pick up a little download that totally fixed all the problems I was having. I played through the story having predecided which faction I was going to go with (The Art for The New California Rangers is 2000 percent cooler than the in game... which you can't always loot off the bodies). Anyway I may have not gotten the full experience of the game because I was not in Hardcore mode (if that makes a difference). All in all I found it another folly of Obsidian making a sequel to something I loved and doing an eh job.

I have been playing Fallout New Vegas on 360 and have had a better time with it than Fallout 3, so far as game ruining bugs are concerned. For whatever reason, my Fallout New Vegas game has, so far, been without major glitches and problems. For instance, I remember in Fallout 3 I had an issue where the game froze on a loading screen as I exited an area. I hadn't done a hard save in a while (I know, bad girl) and I tried to reload the autosave since I had had ok luck with that up to that point. Froze repeatedly. Come to find out that I think the game was trying to generate in all the body parts of things that I had killed and it just couldn't handle loading all of that stuff in plus whatever else. I can't remember how I fixed it, but I eventually managed to load a save that was not so far back and I ended up not losing too much progress.

I have had no such loading issues or game progress losing issues with FONV. I have had some weird pipboy stuff here and there, such as a glitch that happens when you try to mod the pre-order weathered 10mm pistol, but it didn't ruin my game play or anything. I just reloaded a save and didn't apply the mod. A cool place to check out issues with the game is the Fallout wiki. You can click on New Vegas and they have a section where all of the bugs are listed, it's a pretty interesting read and answered some of my minor questions (such as the modding my gun problem).

I like it a lot so far, glitches aside. The story doesn't start as strong as Fallout 3, but as I go along it seems to be much more weighty. The good guys are kind of shades of grey and the bad guys are really really bad. You see and hear things that are way more messed up than in Fallout 3, which I appreciate because I want to have fun stuff along with some really messed up story stuff as well.

I am about 20 hours in and have not made it inside the strip yet, but that is what I am hopefully going to do when I play tonight. I can't wait to see how the story goes from there.

Also, in case anyone is interested, my character is a guns/explosives/speech type lady. I also have put a good amount of my points into energy weapons and lockpick, just because lockpicking is so much fun.

Default Alex, I feel for your hating the VATS. Thankfully, there's a solution!

Alex--

I did not like Fallout 3 either when I first played it. VATS is absolutely stupid. Also I didn't realize I was supposed to move counter-clockwise around the map so I just got raped by super mutants repeatedly and gave up.

I picked up New Vegas (PC), though, and I am in love with this game. I rarely, rarely play RPGs (in fact, you could say I'm a CoD-nut) and I've put at least 10 more hours into this game than Black Ops.

The great thing about New Vegas (and even Fallout 3) is that theres tons of mods out there to tweak the game to your liking. I'm an FPS guy, so I don't want my bullets to be dictated by random chance. Turns out there's a mod that removes the RPG-element from shooting down the sights, and it's wonderful. There's TONS more, from graphical enhancements to personal underground hideouts complete with a personal armory etc.to keep all your loot.

My advice: Get the game for PC (assuming you played on a console), and pick up some mods that will make the game more enjoyable for you. Being able to headshot people properly rather than freezing time and picking the best probability is so much more fun.

I even went back and bought Fallout 3 for the PC and liked it much better than my first play-through simply because I was able to change the stuff I hated (a.k.a., VATS).

Don't miss out on a seriously great game like this. The community mod support is amazing. The place to go is "New Vegas Nexus". Peruse some of the top 100 mods there, you'll be amazed.

EDIT: Also, the story doesn't really pick up until you get to New Vegas and find the man who shot you. I thought that was going to be the end of the story, but really it's just the beginning. So much awesome crap happens after that point. All the stuff prior to New Vegas is just kinda... preparatory stuff. sorta.

Ahhh modding... one of the reasons I miss gaming on a PC...

(*Waxing nostalgic*)

Are any of the mods funny? Or are they strictly functional?

Just curious; it's been a *million* years since I've seen/used one.... we're talking Barney (the purple dinosaur) mod in... Doom (or was it Quake?).

Gosh, I'm old ... :-)
