The only shortcoming to this is you have to have a newer 64 bit computer to make it all work. You can run debian, bsd,, and a host of other os's to keep the old machines still useful. in fact you can even cluster them with a heartbeat. I like to use ltsp to keep old machines valuable. Diskless thin clients work just fine with ltsp or drbd/clonezilla. Not that hard to set up iscsi or aoe to have diskless machines also.A gpxe based cluster is awesome.
