Thank you Shannon for the notice on the encoding changes. You are awesome!
but it baffles me as to why you want to discontinue divx feeds of the shows. this must take you an extra ... 2minutes to encode? why would you want to shut out that audience for no reason? even if you only have only 100 divx subscribers it should be no work to put out a divx version. btw, my zen vision M will only play divx. baffling... Shouldn't you be expanding your shows to more video formats instead of less? Appending my post ... diggnation and hak5 are some of revision3's best shows! I just don't see how removal of certain formats is necessary. Diggnation still great and Hak5 still great. Shannon is great! Jen is great! Darren is great! Alex is great! Kevin is great! just give us more formats, not less. what do you guys have to lose?

XVID users are in the minority so don't matter.

and thats not the worst of it,,, as a guy that watchs on my pc (and has a D/L cap) the smallest wmvs have been shity and full of glitches.. I dont want high def.. I dont want to use quicktime (quicktime on the PC sux as does ITunes and most apple products).
Small wmv and then small divx were my 2 best choices for D/L for file size and playability. If cant get PC-based "bang for the meg"... I;ll need to stop getting shows that I (either) kinda like... or think they got potential and would have continued downloading. Hey you guys in SF and in the tech bubble.... not every1 has HD plasmas or LCDs w/ wifi, or spends $ above our cable bill to have extra hardware Apple TV. Roku, Boxee... whatever.... w/ "real" unemployment at near 18%.. you seem outta touch |

Now I know DIVX, or XVID (which ever one you used). Has been around a long time, and is probably not the most efficant codec. But as the saying gose, don't fix what's not brocken!!!
What I should be saying, my old DVD player (that also has a USB port on it) only plays DIVX, XVID, and not MP4. It dose play MP3 but there's no picture! You should really support Divx or XVid, as it's the standered for standered deffintion downloadable content. If I wanted to watch your show on my computer I'd just watch in in my browser, and would'nt wait for it to download. Thanks for listening to the rant, and hope you change your mind! Gavin Davies. I don't have a Roku, or an appleTV. I do have a ps3, and a laptop (MacBook), and thankfully a wife with a good job. But, bottom line is that we didn't need fancy gadgets to consume online content. Divx is going the way of the dodo in favor of newer containers. QuickTime is Apples implementation of MP4, but they are not the only company using it. Because of that, they are not the only company providing tools to consume it. Don't like Apple and iTunes? How about using VLC? Or WMC with a codec pack? Use the same rss aggregator you used with Divx, but try the new format. Dirty secret is that even the small mp4 file scales nicely. Try it.

I usually run close to my monthly bandwidth limit and always enjoy watching the HD version of the show, so I'd always go with the 24fps HD version. Guess those days are over. Bandwidth really costing you guys that much?

Therefore I might need to limit watching Ben Heck, Geekbeat, Scientific Tuesdays, and Tom's Top 5... shows I'm trying to get into.. but havent grabbed me by the nuts yet to be "must see", if cant get small file sizes.. Yes, vlc handles mp4 but looks worse to me than wmvs. BTW.. the latest wmv of TRS was incredibly small... made me wonder if it was 5 minutes long.. no, it was 15ish minutes but the video was all jacked up (FUBAR'd) Last edited by hellhound : 01-30-2011 at 08:40 PM. |
