Yeah, those damn democrats using a shooting to push gun control.
But you notice they only do it to cover their own asses, proposing legislation to make having a gun within 1000' of a congressman. Screw the little people protect the elected official.

Wait? What!!?? That was proposed by Peter King? Republican representative for New York?? I guess HE won't be getting a check from the NRA in 2012.

Being part Sicilian, I can understand the need for guns. Personally I detest them. How many people still use them to bring food to the table? The real solution is to get help for those people who would use them wrongly. We have a mental health care crisis and major drug use problems in this country that need to be dealt with first.

Hmm, I wonder if here was a healthcare system like that, where there were electronic health care records and preventative health care services, if that could have caught the problems the guy had and - I'm just throwing this out here - flagged him in a national database accessible by the ATF (not full access, just a flag that doesn't violate HIPAA). Part of the paperwork for the background check would be an authorization.

Pity that the NRA blocked a national database of gun owners. There is no way to check that an application denied in one state was approved in another.

Gun control is not gun banning, but it needs to be consistent ... Maybe to a national standard. Pointless denying a gun to the homeless vet listening to the voices in DC, if a quick trip to WV will get him a semi automatic with a full auto conversion kit and extended magazines (and maybe a 9mm for that special voice he hears).

maybe not gun control... maybe people control? But eventually means we all enjoy fewer rights and less freedom.

although no matter how sane the society there will always be those who feel the need to harm others. Honestly I'm amazed these kinds of things don't happen more often given the millions and millions of people in America.

What I do know is one freak tragedy should not mean loss of rights for an entire population.
