I'm pretty sure that;
1) The lady friend knew the answer to the first puzzle right away and only wanted to let guy figure it out by moving the first match and giving him a hint. However he totally failed to do so. 2) That guy wanted to punch Brian in the face when he called him an ass. Can't blame him though; Brian has a very 'punchable' quality to him.
