I am rebuilding a Home Theater PC from the ground up after 2 hard drives bit the dust.
I would have sent the hard drives back to the manufacturer to be replaced however due to the oddities of the law over if you can back up your DVDs or not I decided not to. I was thinking about using encryption on my replacement hard drives that I am ordering for storing my DVD rips and such, however I cant seem to find any information on how this would work. More importantly how would the encryption effect playback of the movies. Can anyone assist me with information on the playback of videos from an encrypted hard drive? Thanks in advance.

Disk encryption usually results in a small performance hit, so if your box is powerful enough it probably won't be noticeable.
For disk encryption software look at TrueCrypt. |
