Can I watch digital television on a UMPC?
I have an Everun UMPC. Here are the specs of my UMPC. 600Mhz (Genode chip), 60GB, 512MB RAM USB port, bluetooth I also have an old Hauppauge usb2 wintv device, could I plug in an HDTV receiver to it, to receive tv? Im from Canada, so Id like to get Canadian and if possible U.S. stations. Enjoying the show since the first episode.... Keith

Digital Tuners have worked for say Netbooks... Main limit is no HD channels... Geode is even older and lower performing though. So even if it works it may not be all that watchable...

The main factor is the video card. My HTPC has an Atom cpu in it and playing HD content makes it stutter. The other machine has a 2.6Ghz dual core chip and it plays HD better, but still stutters a bit.
The deciding factor in playing HD content is the video card. The Atom machine has a Nvidia 8400 that handles all the decoding of the video, same thing on the other machine as well. In your case, I think you may not have a video card that can handle HD, but many channels are broadcasting SD content on their digital channels, so it may work for you for some shows. |
