My grandmother is in her 90's. Her eyesight is not what it once was. She loved her crossword puzzles and reading books and magazines, but now she needs magnification to do so. My family has gotten the notion of getting a tablet with a camera and using ti as a magnification utility for her as well as some of the other things tablets do. The question is, do you know of any good Handicap accessible apps out there to do magnification of the image through the camera? This is hard than expected because the camera app usually shows a lower resolution image through it when your framing a shot and will only show the sharper image is you snap the a picture. The controls are also a bit hard to read for someone who has vision problems as is, so any solution would need big easy buttons. Anyone got any ideas?

My 92yo grandmother is blind (cataracts, can see shapes with high contrast but not details).
She can't watch tv, but listens to the radio a lot. She is an ex-school teacher, and was an avid reader. She tried books on tape/cd, but couldn't see well enough to use the controls on the player. While still being mentally sharp, she doesn't want to learn how to use that sort of device. I thought about a tablet for her, but the interfaces are subpar for someone with visual impairment. Magnification isn't quite so bad, but it's still an issue - to make the interface usable, you would sacrifice the display real estate to make it useful. Good luck with your search. Suggest you try contacting an association for the blind - the wil have a much better handle on these type of devices.
