[Help] USB Illuminator

I need some help with the USB Illuminator, I have two major issues.

One, i can't get my hands on a 3v LED, only lesser. Is there a a converter to see what voltage i have, mixed with the correct ohm on the resister?

Then an easier one; I would also like to add a switch into the mix, what is the best way to do that, and where in the circuit.

Hopefully you guys aren't too busy to read this, I really would like to get this up, it's the perfect college nerd's accessory .

i made a flashlight using an old cellphone charger
i still want to make the lamp dut i dont have the type of DVD (i only have a cd that looks like it)
im using
3.3 volts (typical) and 3.6 volts (maximum) 5mm high brightness white LED purchased from radioshack http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=3060980
and
15 ohm resitors 1/2 watt 5% tolerance
