I like the idea of adding Mike to the movie sections, but I wouldn't want him to replace Dan either. Let everyone in on it!
It's a shame that we won't get to hear Dan's opinions on movies anymore, but in exchange for a feature film I suppose it's worth it. If I'm being honest (and melodramatic) though... This is starting to feel a bit like the beginning of the end for TRS. |

Good luck Dan!
I don't understand all the hate. Dan is pursuing his dream and doesn't want to jeopardize it in any way. I totally get it.

and a "Tip of my hat" to Dan for contributing to the forum (unlike the absent FilmRiot/FilmState guys.. cough cough). I hope he's successful as shit so I can say... "Hey you new fanboy whipper snappers... I remember before Dan Became a Man, now go away... me and Miss Candycane are gonna play some 2012... where she blows my mind" ![]() I'm also gonna guess that, kinda like Diggnation, TRS has become more of a scheduled job-type situation instead of a "hey we are all hanging out and talking about the same thing... lets turn on the cam" kinda feel.. Makes me wonder.. w/ everyone's side projects.... do they actually just get together for fun? Just kick back on the couch as the grill fires up or until the pizza, or chinese, or whatever arrives... And there is the biggest problem... how to manage/coordinate time with friends/family/those you care about... along with employment and economics (which can include needing to move either because of finances or to be closer to employment). It might be because of the economic turn that started under Bush jr... Dont know if he started it or coulda done anything about it.. But crew I'd hung out with for 20-25 years (along w/ my needing to move to find affordable housing) moved, or had to get a 2nd job w/ crazy hours, and in afew cases died from ailments or got incarcerated from the anti-pot/drug institution complex... Cherish your friends and the times as you get them... because times change and in a year... instead of toasting a beer with them at a BBQ..... you might only be able to ask "how's it goin?" over an internet messenger |

I can totally understand Dan's dilemma here. He's playing it safe (out of respect for his peers) to help realise the dream he's had from childhood and I'm fine with that. I do hope that doesn't carry over into his directing. We don't want those big studios pushing you around Dan!
I'd be all for Mike doing movie reviews too, the couple of times he popped onto Weekly Geekly/Media Pulp he was excellent.

Now I have no idea what job you do for a living, but you can be sure that whatever it is, if you have any plans to grow your career, criticising those you work with (or may work with) in public videos on the internet is never going to help. Fans may respect you for the size of your balls and your couldn't give a sh*t attitude, but your peers may not. Movie making is Dan's dream. One he's had from childhood. I wouldn't risk my dreams for the sake of a hobby. Would you?

I dont know diddley do inDirecting,,, but from what I've seen/heard from actor is that they take alot from the directors.... and if an actor has in his mind, that his boss called his prev performance shitty., Then I think the creative flow could be fucked up.
I have no experience in casting/filmmaking.. but I guess that less baggage (warranted or not) helps the end production |

I was watching this post earlier today not wanting to be the first to feed the troll.
Although I'm all for speaking your mind ( if you don't like something I love to hear why), there is a certain way one should go about it. Calling people a wuss is not it.

It's okay, Dan. I understand where you're coming from. If you criticize someone's work, and they take offense to it, that could potentially burn a bridge before it's even built. And for you, that could be devastating for your career.
You aren't all about TRS. None of the TRS guys are. All of you guys have other things you are working on, or are involved with. Which is something a lot of viewers don't take into consideration. |
