Default Comic Con- A Fan's Hope

This is my first post in the forums but figured it was worth posting.

Just watched Morgan Spurlock's new documentary and thought fans of TRS would really enjoy it. It is a great documentary that details different people's Comic Con experience. I would highly recommend it and it is available on VOD atleast through Comcast.

Also if you look closely TRS's very own Jeff and Mikey are visible in the crowd. During the time they follow the couple that goes to The Expendables Panel they are sitting in the audience next to Jeff and Mikey.

Hope you guys enjoy the documentary.

I've looked for it on TimeWarner's VOD and can't find it, which sucks because I would really like to see it. TimeWarner sucks, but their VOD is shockingly pathetic. It's technically broken, but what's worse is, for movies there are 5 FX movies, Turner Classic Movies and 3-4 Hallmark Ch and a handful of Sundance Ch movies available.

Although only slightly related, has anyone seen Comicbook: The Movie ?

I thought A Fan's Hope was cute/fun and well shot but a really shallow look at Comic Con. I wish they had explored more of the tension between old school comic fans vs. n00b pop culture fans and talked about how hard it is to get tickets now, how crowded it is, how everyone else at the con hates the people who clogged Hall H for the Twilight panel, etc. But I understand that's not the type of movie they were aiming to make.

Holly Conrad, who is the main character in the movie, is so cool and SO FREAKING TALENTED! Her costumes and creatures are just absolutely insane. It's awesome that she's getting even more exposure now. Apparently Felicia Day is a big fan of hers.

I hadn't heard of Comicbook : The Movie before but it's up for streaming on Netflix. Is it worth checking out?

I've been meaning to watch Trekkies too because it gets referenced now and then when talking about geek culture.

Kind of tangentially related, I'm reading Tough Shit by Kevin Smith right now and it's really good!

Sounds like one of those doc's where the maker set out to make a particular story, rather than just turn a camera on and have a story develop that he chases and captures. I'm kinda shocked to know about that Twighlight thing. I wouldn't have expected Con nerds to care, and didn't think that many 12 yr old girls made it to the con. That's like Justin Timberlake showing up at the NY School Of Jazz and all the nerds that were there to see Stan Getz or Dave Brubeck getting locked out by screaming tweens. I'm mad on behalf of you.

Not sure what channel it was, but I saw a cute lil tv show called Geeks In Love. (I think) and it seems to be only 2 episodes (I've seen them reapeatedly airing at weird times) but it's a look at the speed-dating that they do at ComicCon, with background info on the mains and follows them if they date. It was great, but also sad.

BTW - are you married now ?

Worth it to see the ppl that are in it. Not a great movie, but very much a nerd celebration, but very indie, .. . it's just that it feels like Mark Hamill said, "hey, why I don't I direct a movie while I'm here, I'll just go up to ppl and think of something to tell them and film it." I think it's even more worth it to check on DVD though, because of all the extras.
I mean, look at this list - you might not know who everyone is, but you basically actually do. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361462/fullcredits#cast
If you've ever wanted to know what Spongebob looks like ( and you didn't already know from Mr.Show With Bob and David ), Fry from Futurama,... etc.

Yes, but kind of scary/sad. I also love Wordplay, one of my fav doc's ever, because of the nerds in it....also happens to be an incredible story naturally appearing on film..

Can I borrow that when you're done ?

This sounds so cute!! I'll have to look for it. And yes James and I got married! Our one year anniversary is coming up soon.

The post house that James works for edited this movie! I haven't watched it yet. I was going to make a double feature with Spellbound and Wordplay but then Spellbound was really boring so I didn't end up watching either of them...

There is a limited lending option...though that'd require hoops.

There are moments that are -unbelievably- cute. But I've only seen 2 ep's existing.

EDIT - Geek Love not Geeks In Love. http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/tv/geek...-geek-love.htm

It's fucking AWESOME. Weird ppl, presented really well, and crazy story happens out of the blue, and I have no interest in the subject matter itself. I rented it for my roommate who always did NY Times crosswords. I set her up well too, she had no idea what it was going to be until the opening frame. She was intrigued, amazed, laughed, cried and then at the end screamed at the tv. It's playing on Sundance right now (again, DVD is loaded and better) and TimeWarners VOD. Yeah, Spellbound was ... lame.

Congrats to the dude in James' posthouse, because he glued a mess together and that director talks about it working as a movie because of the editing and graphics.

Congrats on you and James, cool story you two is. You guys are near Santa Barbara aren't you ?

Oh my god. I just watched both episodes of Geek Love with the hubby and we absolutely loved it! I was freaking out because everyone was so cute! I felt so bad for the wookie dude that didn't get any dates though Geek Love was better than A Fan's Hope to be totally honest. Haha don't tell anyone I said that.

It's cute how nervous and excited everyone got when they sat down with each other. Iron Man sure was popular. He found a cutey too. Yeah, wookie dude depressed me, and the girl who's mom came on the date was a bit sad, although the guy was very respectful.

Now do yourself a favour and watch Wordplay and see full grown professional nerds.

I never did see Jeff in it...just Dan. And, the Kevin Smith question session was nice to see outside of the youtube quality version. (Although, I wanted to strangle that one chick at times for not giving the guy the space he needed...)
