Angry Annoying Android Notification Area spam

This started happening on my Droid Bionic phone a couple days ago. An ad appears in the notification area for an app in the Google Play Store (a.k.a Google Apps Store). This is especially annoying because (1) it apparently has nothing to do with any app I ever downloaded, so I cannot tell why it's there (2) you cannot just click to make it go away -- you have to follow the link to the Google Play Store (3) it keeps coming back every day. (Now, I did download and then uninstall an app a couple days ago -- could that be why? But that app seems unrelated to this ad.) The ad is for an app is called "Sexy Cuties" and looks like some soft-porn game. I'm not interested, and didn't look closely at it. Last time, I clicked on the report button and complained about it to the Google Play store, so I hope that will make it go away.

My fear is that there will be more and more of this spam, with no way to end it. The nice thing about Android phones is the apps store (sorry, I mean Google Play), but now that seems to also be the worst thing if they keep putting ads in my notification area.

I understand that most free apps will have adds embedded within them. I accept that. But not in the notification area where I have to do something to make it go away. If this keeps up, it will be intolerable.

So my questions are: Is this something other people are experiencing? How to make it stop (if reporting it doesn't get the desired results)?

It's from an app -- maybe not there when you first downloaded it, but perhaps after an update.

Download the program "Addons Detector". Do a scan. Click on the Addons button, and look for anything that's using "Push Notifications". These are the likely suspects. Assuming you can live without these apps, uninstall them and the notification spam should go away.

Hope this helps!
