Acacia owns a patent on streaming video and audio on the net! heh..

Ok im sure that got a few peoples attention and Its been well know to alot of us working in the adult industry. Acacia see EFF most wanted list ( Acacia ).

They bought a patent that they claim covers any sort of non live video and audio broadcasting on the net.

Now you might say this is fcken ridiculous and I totally agree with you but about 2 1/2 years ago my company got served with a letter from them saying that we need to license their technology/patent and pay X amount per year to avoid a lawsuit against us.

Well apparently they went after the adult entertainment market first thinking we would roll over easily and pay these fee's. Some did but some gathered together and have a fight still on-going in court to invalidate their patent.

its pretty serious and the reason I bring it up is Acacia continues to buy patents and enforce them, basically a bunch of lawyers who have nothing else to do but sue people for patents they didn’t even create.

question is to revision3 and all other video blogs/podcasts etc, do you care? do you want to have a wait and see attitude?

oh I also sorta put this on digg, i think its been their before but maybe making some awareness might help the cause for taking down lame ass patents. Digg it

sorry about ranting but i think its good to make people, and companies aware of the silliness going on in today’s society with patents.
