This felt like Moffat doing an Aliens style sequel. Thoroughly enjoyable and looking forward to the conclusion next week. I thought the bit with Amy realising she could close one eye at a time was fab. A touch of The Ring with that part too.

I think it's nice that Moffet is tapping a lot of classic Who themes. "Doctor Who" has always been Sci-fi with a healthy dose of suspense.

The conclusion of the "Angels" episode made me say...
"Now that's my Doctor Who!" Much better and I feel like Matt is really starting to fit into the role. |

Yes, Matt seems very familiar. He sort of a cross between David Tenant and Peter Davidson.

My boyfriend says he's reminded of Tom Baker. I can see that, too.

I enjoyed both parts equally. The 'out' at the start of this episode was perfect and awesome, and I'm really loving the way the season's 'crack in the universe' thread is being doled out so early on. In Davies' reign there were call outs ('Bad Wolf') but the meat was left until the finale. Here it feels like an actual serialised show in many respects, which I think is a great new direction.

Eh. 8 episodes in and we get the worst one. I loved the series so far so one bad apple isn't that big of a deal... but my goodness this episodes was a snore. It was just terribly written... I just couldn't take it and even shut it off with 6 minutes left just because I just didn't care...
We were pretty much told every dramatic plot point coming up. Are they going to kill the alien? Yes. Is the mom gonna use a gun or a weapon? Yes. Is the doctor going to be put in dramatically moral choice between the humans and sleeping species beneath the earth? Yep. Snore. Writing so bad even short-shorts and charm couldn't save it... ugh. And it was a two parter! What a waste...

1. Doctor Who 1/2 part eps are notoriously weak. The follow-ups are usually thr strongest eps. 2. The Silurians are a race that has appeared on several occasions. Indeed, this story is a little derivative. The doctor decends to depths with a peace overture that goes ignored by both Humans and Silurians. War erupts. It's been told.

I'm so on the fence about this season still. It hasn't been consistent (good or bad) at all.
I expected better from the writing, honestly. Moffat's previous episodes were some of my favourite episodes ever. This season just hasn't given me that feeling so far. I mean really, have any of these been comparable to Blink, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, The Girl in the Fireplace, Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead?! Those were all amazing episodes and after the stink of Russell T Davies farewell episodes I was really prepared for something fantastic. The Doctor has been fine. He's no David Tennant but I can see him growing into the role. Amy is annoying at times but seriously hot and smart so it's forgivable. I don't know, I'm just not really feeling it. ![]() |
