I'm guessing 8 or 9 at this point, but I will have to gage this as he grows older... for the rest of the world I would say you'd probably have more luck watching the 70s doctor who on netflix, it's much better, even if the budgets are somewhat lacking. The acting in those older ones is always top notch as they would typically hire actors who were classically trained for Shakespeare. It's probably why you could see these guys on Doctor Who one week, and then Master Piece Theater the next.

Ok thanks. I guess I'll go back to the 70's. There is a few on netflix so that's easy.

Although I'm allowed to watch the new doctor who's now :-)

So scratch that. Moving forward before I go back.

Honestly I strongly suggest watching the old first, not only is it a great way to get the back story straight, it may be hard to go back and watch the old ones once you've seen the new ones, the production value jump is massive.

Also, they have tons of them on Netflix, as in 4 to 6 episodes of each story, the new ones are mostly single episode stories.

I skipped all of Sarah Jane except for the two Doctor cameo episodes. If you haven't already, go back and watch season three's Sarah Jane's wedding episode because it features David Tennant's last appearance as the Doctor (he shot it after End of Time, but it aired first).

I found a good place to watch some Doctor Who that has Sarah Jane in it when Tom Baker was playing the Doctor. This is more for those that haven't watched any of the old episodes. It gives you the back story on the creation of the Daleks as well and gives you some insight on the Galifraens

After just watching the entire series (2005-present), I can't believe TRS hasn't taken the time to actually review this show. Even though I'm not a sci-fi person in the least bit, the first four seasons just blew me away.

I only started watching it because I would catch bits and pieces on BBC America before or after Top Gear, and it took me a while to get interested b/c Matt Smith's stupid face made me not like it, lol. However, after going back to square one with Eccleston and Tennant, I've only re-affirmed my disdain for Smith; he's such a wanker. It makes me mad that all of the work the other two Doctors put into the series was pretty much erased from the Who-verse with the current Doctor. I'm sure it has a bit to do with Russell T. Davies leaving as well; it seems like Moffat has sculpted it into an X Files homage, even down to the title sequence fonts. And I thought Donna Noble was annoying, but Amy Pond blows her out of the water in terms of sheer nebish stupidity and narcissistic screen presence. Within the first three episodes I was already fed up with her complete disregard for following the Doctor's orders, and just acting like a smart ass.

Anyway, I've only got like 4 more episodes to get caught up and ready for the new ones airing at the end of the month. The only things I'm interested right now is River Song's character/arc and the impending "death of the doctor" which they're using as the main focus for the remaining season's trailers. I really hope they incorporate more "traditional" aspects of the series instead of all this Earth-history-centric stuff.

Hopefully they'll make them available to the public soon.

I really like that the BBC iPlayer is available in Canada and we can watch all the episodes pre-relaunch... sadly nothing post relaunch is available.
