Default Giving More Power To The Thread Starters

With all the ideas that have been submitted lately about the boards, a pretty good one came to mind. How about giving more power to the thread starters by giving them the ability to block out certain users from there threads and close them whenever they want to. The modding powers would still be for the mods of course, but in terms of thread starters they would have control of their threads. Note, I will say that the thread starters shouldn't be able to censor posts because then that would eliminate any opinions or ideas.

No no no, YOU ARE RIGHT. What I mean is a way to block out the immature, flamers, etc. from your threads.

That's pretty much a very bad idea.

So you would determine who is an immature flamer? What if YOU don't like MY point of view and tell me to get the **** out and block me as a "flamer"? Well... that's not very cool.

I would never block based on point of view.

Does any mod mind closing this one? I don't think it's gonna get very far.

You may not do something but there are people who would.

Oh, great idea!
I have a better one, how about instead of giving everyone this ability, we have specific people to do that and clean up spam on the forums! I wonder where we can get something like that?

I partially agree with you - but the forum software doesn't allow it ... either you are a mod (or admin) or a user. No halfway unfortunately.

If any thread starter wants a thread they created locked or moved, then PM a mod - we pretty much do that no questions asked.
If you want to lock or move someone elses thread, then PM a mod. If the thread IS in the wrong area, or deserves to be locked due to a ToS violation, then it will also be done.

As for blocking users from threads - its unfortunate, but many of the legit threads that do get locked are because of immaturity. Politics and religion are two subjects that require a level of maturity to have a good discussion, which is why they derail so quickly in open forums.

The only control you really have is to add people to your ignore list. Its a little known feature, and I wish more people that continually disagreed with each other would use it. Go to your User CP ( on tool bar), and scroll down to the Buddy / Ignore Lists item on the left side menu. Add in people you want to ignore, and you wont see their posts - you will see posts that they were quoted in though.

Not a total solution for you, but it might help you out a little.
