What is the deal with the iPod plugs into another device media center things? I seriously did a WTF? when I saw them. So here's the basic issues I have with that segment and the previous episodes segments about AppleTV and that Linux box.
1) Actually look for a wired or wireless Media player. Good products to do reviews for IMO would include the D-Link DSM-520 (HD up to 1080i), PixelMagic's HD MediaBox (1080p), and Buffalo Link Theater PC-P3LWG/DVD (1080i). Best thing of all, they support Divx/Xvid and a bunch of other formats! 2) If you guys do try any of those products out, please please don't use the included server software, use TVersity. I have a DSM-320, basically a non-HD version of the DSM-520 and TVersity works great, and if your player can't handle the video format, it'll transcode it for you. 3) All the products Jessica has looked at so far have 1 thing in common. Ipod. They were all about taking her iPod and doing something with it, which IMO is why those last two products were shitty, they were made to appeal to someone that thinks they need more iPod accessories. Ok, I've said this before, but I think I'm not making myself too clear. I'm getting tired of seeing the same similar segments, i.e. car stereo/gps segments. We get it, you like cars a lot. But not all of us do to that extent and it would be nice to have an episode that had a truly meaningful segment instead of just another car segment.

At this point we do what we can. I'd love to explain the complexities of doing a show like InDigital, but I'd have to write several pages. Unlike the other shows on Revision3 that are purely based on the hosts, we depend on products just as much. We, unfortunately, aren't at the top of the PR list for products right now and I can't really afford to buy everything. We put a ton of requests out and look at the products as they arrive. Lately, it's been car stuff that's been coming through the door. The bottom line is that it all really depends on the number of viewers we have. The more viewers, the higher up the list we get and the faster we get products for the show. This isn't TechTV (yet) with 2 or 3 people working full time just to get products. Even then it was harder than you'd think. We'll get there eventually...it's a work in progress. Hahn Last edited by haanzz : 05-06-2007 at 09:08 AM. |

I'd like to just go on record to say I _REALLY_ like the car audio and GPS stuff. I have to travel a lot for my job, and am constantly looking out for those kinds of products.
Those segments are one of the reasons I keep watching! |

I think iPods have been over-hyped for a while now, and the fact that you have to buy an apple tv to watch your movies on a bigger screen proves it.
Here's how I see it (Links to buy each under its section): Ipod video (30GB): £175 ($249) + apple TV: £200 ($299) 2.5" screen Overall: £375 ($548) UK: http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=30F51C&nclm=iPod US: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&mco=18C6CF82&node=home/ipod/ipod Creative Vision W (30GB): £225 ($284) 4.3" screen and it will plug and play with NTSC and PAL TVs UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-Vision-Portable-Media-Player/dp/B000JF5AQK/ref=sr_1_1/026-0255092-8242848?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1178467830&sr=1-1 US: http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=210&subcategory=211&product=1 5752&campid=20435&WT.cg_n=Campaigns&WT.mc_id=2744 Creative Vision M (30GB): £140 ($200) 2.5" screen and it will plug and play with NTSC and PAL TVs UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000E3U4JU/3000032-21/ref=nosim US: http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=210&subcategory=214&product=1 4331 I hope you guys read this rather than flaming me for not following like a sheep. I'm just pointing out that there are better things than iPods if you look for them. For the average user, and iPod is quite good, but people who watch this show probably arn't average users. You know you can buy a $10 AV cable and connect the iPod directly into the TV, right? I'd go as far to say that the Apple TV is a totally unrelated product aside from the fact that it involves watching/listening to your shows, movies, and music.

I would Buy those iPod Video Things at $50 each, no more. I just like taking Things apart and look around inside.

Seriously though, I would like to see a segment about wired/wireless media players. Not necessarily ones with HDDs or Linux boxes. But like the ones I listed in my previous post that act solely as a connection between computer and TV. I've been looking to replace my D-Link DSM-320, but there isn't much talk about those products, let alone reviews comparing them. Anyways, keep up the great job and I hope you guys have better luck with getting products.
