Default show idea based on ep 18 (hahn cell phone)

I am a n00b when it comes to cell phone stuff. I understand what it means to buy an unlocked phone. But is there any special process in doing so. I need a sim card right? Sorry if this would be better suited for a different rev3 show, i had just gotten the idea from hahn. I'm just looking for more info on this

Hmm. I actually think Systm would be better if you want an explanation of how to use an unlocked phone and all the requirements and stuff. Indigital is more of a review show but hey, I might be wrong. It's a great idea if you ask me. I was always confused about unlocked phones.

No, I think this fits here, this is consumer stuff. First you need to decide what your needs are - are you going to be travelling to different countries? If so, GSM is for you. Why? Because the SIM card can be removed and information is not hard-wired to the phone as is the case, I believe, with CDMA.

You can simply remove the SIM card and have a phone that will be able to do nothing. The advantage here is if you go to Europe and get a SIM card there, all your calls are local.

What do you mean by asking if there is a process in doing so? Nokia started selling unlocked phones from their site.

i was more or less curious if i could buy an unlocked phone then pop in my sim card from a previous phone/provider. My current one doesn't have a usb jack so i'm outta luck when it comes to transferring song/pics. or hacking the software.

hmmm.. that might be better suited for system

Yeah that's the idea with GSM phones. Once you get the right phone (operating on all bands) then yeah, any SIM will work, that's the beauty of it. Once you store your contacts on the SIM, your contacts move with you. If you store them on the phone, contacts will be there regardless of the SIM and you can easily transfer contacts from phone to card.
