I have a lot of the tools from it installed on my laptop as I can't stand live CD's (too slow). It would be hard to say which are the best tools as it depends on what you're trying to do. The tools I most use are btscanner, Kismet (I'm now using Kismet-Newcore), Aircrack-ng and Nmap but that doesn't denote that any of the other tools are lesser in any way.

Ive been testing out a few distros for purposes of wireless security, and I was debating whether to use BackTrack2 or S-T-D. I found that BackTrack2's forums support was really great! I even read through a thread that was 3 pages long about support for one issue.. all posted within 2 hours. Wow.. S-T-D was much more "linux elitist" attitude about the topics. I did end up going with S-T-D just because of my hardware, but if you are looking for a linux distro in that security/pen testing category, I would suggest checking it out.
The programs I was interested in using on it BTW were: kismet, and those included in tbe aircrack suite. Macchanger is a great little utility also! :-) |
