dd-wrt is the best firmware choice for any version Linksys WRT. They've even figured out a way to get DD-WRT onto the v5 Linksys WRT54G's that were previously unhackable due to the vxworks os that was installed on it from Linksys. Port forwarding is a breeze once you have a custom firmware installed.
