Anyone been watching this show? Im a huge fan of the Man vs Wild show and at first i didnt really like this show, it seemed less real and gritty, but after sitting through a few more i have grown to really like it. There is things i didnt know before, like he is all alone, no crew, 7 days instead of 5 on the other show and really its just a pretty good show.
I swear i watch shows like this and it really makes me miss camping and all the woods stuff i used to do up north before i came to florida. Makes me wanna get out there again. Anyway, just passing it along if no one has seen it. Its on discovery channel, the shows main slot is fridays 9pm i think. but its on various times too. Also, man vs wild is coming back for the rest of season two in november i think it is. 11/16 i believe. Now the shows are 2 hours along and its going to be more transparent. They are gonna show how much the crew plays a role and really kinda address the claims that bear doesnt " keep it real " should be fun to watch. Personally i think the guy is amazing. Anywho, like i said, passing it along.

Discovery admitted Bear slept in hotels twice in his show I believe sorta makes ya wonder what else is going on. While the other like ya said is alone. Still both very entertaining.

I don't live Man vs Wild because he says he does stuff by him self when his crew actully helped him, or did al of the work.
I love Suvivorman tho. This new season has been great. One odd thing for me about the show is, after watching them there are two things he has eaten that I've just been craving to try for some reason. I really want to try a scorpion. I have no idea why, but they just looked really good. The other thing, I don't remember what it was called, and have no idea how it was spelled either when I tried to look it up. It was in his Amazon episode, the red skinned, yellowish meat fruit that he said was related to tomatos. No idea what it was, but it looked good, and I wanted one. If anyone knows what its called let me know. I wanna try one...

I watch Survivorman occasionally and I give him a lot more credit than Bear for the actual surviving part. But something skewed my opinion of the show the other day. It was the one where he was in the African plains...with a hot air balloon. Not as hard to survive with a wicker basket and parachute material for shelter, not to mention the "defense system" of 6 foot shooting flames and all the rope. Now I'm sure you could possibly get stranded from a downed hot air balloon but the scenario just seemed weird to me.

Actually they didnt admit that from the stuff i read. My understand is that the crew flew out while bear stayed but people freaked out and said bear did too. But when you hear interviews from bear he says its not true and like I said this season is supposed to be even more hardcore. Either way I'm stoked. Got facts? Cause i wanna know too if so. I dont believe hearsay much these days. Give bear the benifiet of the doubt, you know how people are these days. But yea. I just watched that african one. I think all that just says that he isnt suicidal though geekluv. I mean he was in they plains of Africa. If there is lions around and he is alone with no one anyplace close to help, I'm not gonna fault him for stacking the deck a little. In the same respect there were moments in that one show that got me more then any show yet. I mean when that stuff started growling or when he was sleeping outside with no protection, I was locked in going " your nuts dude !"

I've enjoyed both shows to varying degrees. Where Man v. Wild fails for me are some of the more obviously setup scenarios presented as the "only means of escape." Worse still is the equipment fudging. "I've only got a canteen" which is, not coincidently, hanging from Bear's shoulder by a considerable length of survival/parachute cord. I also find it *VERY* difficult to believe the cameramen/women don't look the other way while the supplies might be "accidentally" left behind. "Where did that sandwich go? It was here just a minute ago...."
Survivorman I find much more entertaining. It thrills me in much the same way an eight-year-old likes watching America's Funniest Home Videos. The kid gets his few seconds of somebody getting kicked in the junk, and I get a slow buzz from seeing a guy put himself through something that borders on depravity. I look forward to a very special hairshirt episode, or maybe a week at the local flophouse. But this is all research material, one way or the other. When the zombie threat emerges, Discovery Channel will have set me up with the knowledge to survive in a more natural environment, far away from the urban nightmare of brain-craving undead. |

Don't forget that half the stuff on Man Vs. Wild would get you killed in real life.

I find it fascinating to watch Survivorman and consider how he has to set up his camera and then retrace his steps to get the shot. In episodes where he is climbing through dangerous terrain it makes you appreciate what he goes through even more. He carries a lot of camera gear just to get a variety of shots and angles which just adds to the challenge. I give him a lot more credit than the Man V Wild guy. That show just feels a lot more set up and has no sense of adventure or survival.

I think both shows are good. I started off watching Survivorman and then Man vs Wild. Both have different aspects and off different things. So I'll just watch both
