Perhaps you're supposed to sound out the riff of the song à la Beavis & Butthead.

Hopefully they don't do too much with it. I want to keep the DS as portable as possible, and well... I don't want people staring at me when I'm playing it on the bus or something.

They might just make you press the buttons? Kind of like how you play GH on the 360 with a controller instead of a guitar?
A mini-guitar seems kind of stupid to me. |

If it isnt using the touch screen like Jam Sessions, will the game come with a mini guitar?
That might be cool |

What if it was something that attached over the touch part and you strummed there and it had like a neck with color buttons. The only worry there is if it accidentally became detached and you dropped it in your heavy rocking.
