As long as the "more secure" kernel is there (that waits to be seen whether or not it is actually "more secure") and all of the OS' features are there (like Sleep, SuperFetch, ReadyBoost/Drive, Backup, etc.), I'll be happy. Although, I just have a "feeling" that MS will pull a cheap move on me and its consumers where they'll leave something out--like Backup will be missing from Windows Vista Home Basic and/or Windows Vista Home Basic won't be able to join a workgroup, and, therefor, Windows Vista's wonderful new networking feature will be pretty much useless. My worst fear is that Windows Vista Home won't be able to support 64-bit and/or dual CPUs/dual-core CPUs, or more than a gig of ram, or something to piss me off into switching to a mac. I can just feel it!

I love the fact that so many people judge Vista before they have even tried it.
Then there are those who are in love with anything Apple and refuse to give any kudos to Microsoft on what they have done with Vista.

It is a hell of a lot better than Windows XP, just like Windows XP was a hell of a lot better than the previous version (Whichever you were running).

Windows Vista is a lot more secure for one. Sure you'll get the flamers complaining about the security messages popping up which you have to confirm but it's all in the name of security.

Microsoft have a hell of a lot more work to do than Apple when it comes to creating an operating system.

One of the biggest jobs is Drivers. Whereas Apple only use select hardware such as Graphics Card's, drives etc (anything not supported is left to the manufacturer's disgression) Microsoft have to support thousands of items of hardware going back god know's how long.

Then there are those complaining about System Specs. What do you expect. It's been 5 years since the last release of Windows. Things have moved on, technology has moved on drastically, and at the end of the day, the system requirements aren't really that shocking and you don't need a fantastic machine to run Vista, unless you wan't to run it in all it's glory.

I own both Windows Machines and Mac's and I am unbiased. I'm not a Mac fanboy, and I'm not a Windows fanboy. They do what I bought them to do and thats about as far as i'll go in singing their praises.

I'm running Vista RC1 and have been for a couple of weeks now and I have found it stable, responsive and it runs fine. I havn't even bothered installing any official drivers because the one's that Windows installed work perfectly. I can run Oblivion in all the settings I run it on in XP (Max) without so much as a problem.

Basically all you read about on forums, blogs etc are those who just slam Microsoft. Sure they've made mistakes and have had to pull a large number of things from Vista, but the fact is that a newer, more secure operating system is on it's way and most of the pulled features will probably appear in a service pack at some point along the way.

If you don't like windows, don't slam it without good reason. If you don't like MacOS, don't slam it without good reason.

I know me saying that is pointless and i'll probably get flamed by those who have read about 2 reviews on Vista and would no doubt orgasm at the sight of steve jobs in one of his turtle neck's, but that would be no more than i expect

I played with Beta 2 and RC1 and there was an improvment between the beta and rc1, but it still has a ways to go. In Beta 2 especially it seemed that Microsoft put too much effort into the eye candy and not enough into the OS itself. I'm buying a Mac and still using Ubuntu on my PC, I might buy Vista eventually.

I have to agree with sean 89. Windows XP does have some major flaws. They took a lot of good things from other OSs like the ability to run administrator in a limited account. The filesystem is also setup like a mac or linux system. The GUI is rather nice and you dont need a high end graphics card. Mine cost me 100 bucks when I bought my computer. I ran Vista RC1 just fine and I am pleased with it. But I think they need to do like apple did with osx and rebuild from the ground up.
