Powermat is a system a lot of us are familiar with, but it requires a special mat, a special phone case, and it still needs a cord.
The Wireless Power Consortium has created a standard for charging technology with the hope of greater interchangeability between devices following their "Qi" (pronounced "chee") standard.
Another organization working in the wireless power realm is The Alliance for Wireless Power, which counts Powermat, Samsung, and Qualcomm as members.
