" Welcome back to the GigaOM show our -- he joins us whats on today. Well today we have two very special guests with us that it's going to -- Internet celebrity death match so look out issues we have with us today Kevin Rose founder Dave. Pownce and Revision 3 examine thank you for joining us and we also have Jason calacanis founder of weblogs ink and now -- dot com. And threatening to pledge that you but before you begin we have a few quick disclosures to make some facts at throughout there."
" Yeah so I think it's -- to note that Jason. Is related to choice that's right two. Marriage not not not a not so -- but through her sister primary and justices Joyce where upon his. New company mojo as in dresses in the hollows and turning. Hey great attorney about a absolutely fantastic she won't be had at night. Exactly right very confident very competent much more competent than you and I got his -- high benchmark isn't. It's pretty come on do you. Cameron and I go back a long way from back drinking buddies drinking buddies in an -- to hang out together. Those -- at a time. Actually it was more like put prayer that's ahead. Shouldn't buy it yeah I've known Kevin since tech TV days and I'm a good friend it is animation tree. The producer of the show was chartered by Kevin it's the reason I actually think. It's imparted to lead the disclosure of our delay is because I really wanted this this meeting of the minds to happen because. There's been a -- that's been made about Kevin versus Jason. And that my name it's I have to play the peacekeeper you know maybe bring people together and so that's part of will be a good -- even though there's a lot of conflict which is not what he liked to do put in this case you make an exception because. Between the two if you should be working together. What do you think Jason."
" I never felt like any pac ten and I have always been friends I didn't in my mind. And even with the Netscape versus dig stuff you never really got personal for me found. It a personal money for a lot of the people and dig. Maybe that's in the Digg users who are you know obviously very protective of Kevin and that's a testament to the incredible service development. I've never had -- you know sort of it's just a little bit more press than I think it is reality for -- you are awesome at like spinning press. But you really get -- you got a lot of press for Netscape yup and you know you you hit this in certain directions like as far as saying right. It -- to do this there. Did you hire editors. And they got people talking."
" They're also got a lot of press for Digg as well right yeah absolutely it got to -- affiliate hey look AOL's is is so impressed with the -- model that they're wanting to. Devoted significant honour system -- building the same or similar thing that's a."
" Well I mean I never talked about how they actually came to be like was that you. What I never really early on you're talking earlier on about -- And you like did anyone -- part of weblog think initially yeah I I I there was fantastic service and always you. Sort of it was just you actually into the -- and when I looked at the states has said. -- is fantastic but. Wrong stories you get to the top level pretty quick as journalists the sort of find that little bit troubling so maybe they should be an editorial layer on top. And if things get to the top level what if you put a journalist on the story -- give kind of interest in compelling model."
" What do you think it's gone though now since that you've left Netscape Netscape still kind of going along -- is that at some point you had your user ovals where is -- model and now."
" I don't ever got complete the mission and I and my tenure cut short. At AOL because they've let go of the CEO and -- the next -- so. They really got to try for four months five months. And it's kind of outside where is the audience is great it's finding little nuggets you know look at a flickering image -- PDF for a press release. Then you are so editors are blogs -- your joystick takes a police -- on Digg like Ross source material. And make it into a full story right so that's -- would be the interest in component model and of course became Jason's old -- And I think that's sort of preempted the whole sort of discussion and windows platform that played it wrong but. I know I I absolutely agree with. With that idea because I think one of the things you'll see us doing in the future is turning that kind of -- of the story until -- the discussion. Allowing people to contribute other links and other sources and his. Build up that agent to something a lot richer than just a link to single story with comments that TC many -- articles. Humility to the level of actually seeing -- discussion. I mean there's. Hundreds of thousands of comments per month that happened around. The story so I mean that Kevin."
" Hate to interrupt you but there's two different marvelous you -- discussing a social media you're saying there needs to be an editorial. You know let. You are saying that you know the community knows best. I mean clearly my -- and as I know best that at three different forms of social news Richard evolving. Do they live hand in hand are doing they won one actually starts to dominate the conversation on them actually."
" And in some of the things we. Innovative and Netscape and that's it wasn't just a copy of the -- do it it basically built on it and it did a lot of things are much more innovative and when they had done today in. You tell me that before him. You know. Well it -- corporate direction and Barack I don't know if I call it while it yet to defender of America and you think you believe in the community's ability to control right where goes. And my thought was let's community service up to a certain point and then hand it off. For some real journalism with real people. Who maybe use real names and use real techniques are calling on phoney checking the facts. And so I I always felt felt my career was sort of between maybe you -- old school journalism and maybe your you know sort of wisdom of crowds which is. To the best of both worlds most of us trying to do with my hollow and Netscape and he weblog think was that model."
" At times -- trying stories which are not really stories. You know you margin to the top especially in leaked he'd started to happen in game. And you know on Netscape -- happened quite often. All you talk about the media -- content elect yes CEOs -- yams are sort of like steaming up there right and that's just dislike him a disturbing because it kind of -- into the utility of the systems so what we're doing is. You'll see a feature."
" Not here in the near future that is our story suggest feature and we've hired some amazing. Mathematicians to come in in and create algorithms for us that. Take a look at what you've done in the past year interest and start to suggest stories and friends based on what you've been digging. So you'll see that can help out there then also -- put a lot more emphasis on kind of like the profile section of the -- going to see what your friends and friends of friends have been digging. So lots of changes coming for our side."
" Is this Jason. A part of for emerging business trying minute. You know you have something electric or start and then -- coming on adding this is this late is start of having. You know the companies do the future upgrades in Poland in the other competitors are doing product upgrades are adding features to."
" This is it's -- a very competitive environment and there -- industries about evolution and set -- serve the unfair they -- You know. Happened during on Netscape gave -- was that it's always stole you know. -- the concept for a guy you know Netscape from day. But now we have Kevin coming out Pownce which is obviously you know very much designed like Twitter -- just -- was on change -- look pretty much at the same page. Except he had some really great features. He Kevin Steele Twitter I don't think so I think he evolved Twitter and it's really great features to it. And that's our interest as it is evolution of ideas are not. Copying and you know I agree with that that we you know we get our inspiration from budget from places online and like when I was -- can dig those thinking of you know slash that was a great resource that was all user submitted content but the people can vote on it. And so I -- delicious doing some great things there it's like. You know you pull these things together and then the innovation happens when you say okay here is a niche that isn't being filled right now. And I think I can do better than the next guy in New England build."
" So speaking of doing can spend the next Skype look at here on new projects that are taking on an interesting new fields are actually you're taking on a big guy you're taking on. A new company hot topic like Twitter. I was actually curious to see what do you think my hollow is doing right Iran and what do you think Pownce has going for are not close I'm going against it here."
" So you flip. So I have to answer them -- question about it so you know I like I really. The one and the whole first came out IAEA you know what's the what the front page does take up some of the terms I'm like well why really actually use this but then I think that. The initial first week was kind of like you had a bunch of results up there but it wasn't the only thing that I was into that particular time that the less and it do. This story about cheap airline tickets that you guys did -- and that was insanely well done I mean it was just laid out there and it took you through the steps of like all these little hints he wouldn't you'll find anywhere else. I was like this is like a perfect mashup of kind of like. Wikipedia hands. I don't know it just really giving me got -- out how to that I want to find ninety how are something like that that it can't find anywhere else but in one was I think that's why would you tomorrow is is for those kind of nuggets of information that I wouldn't. Pulled together."
" From all different sources. I think you know Kevin's greatest skills that he. Really hasn't been very good sense of user interface and so -- I think is the most elegant of Twitter and -- to and the other services out there nobody's really ever gotten. File transfer instant messaging correct and I think you know that and that's so I mean I think that's Kevin skills you know. Obviously the elegant user interface with. Incredible functionality behind him very clean design and."
" I think the the key thing for pounds Kevin my two cents is that you really have to. Me -- a professional like a pro -- have to be there because people need to be tied. Two and I. ID so that if that is in you know people who do use it for nefarious purposes. You ought to have any course and they should know me up -- if you are going to do something stupid you're on your own and I think that's one."
" We don't know if it's if he's built a telephone. And you know people -- build a car and you know people used cars and telephones to rob banks harass people that you don't blame Ford for the phone company -- for people do with phones in cars."
" Not yet but now -- rush up there except clouds it right but think that that's a big issue go to -- whatever is in -- fairness this is going to be an issue. Might as I I predict it's not an issue is that it's the same thing as email and I can email you the fine these peace talks -- going to -- and voted -- mixing it that the two of them on gang and I'll tell I think I think it's absolutely. Not to total money should because. It's exactly like email and so to come down wants terrorists. Ridiculous it's in but hey this is saying which I want it to prosecute Jason and his. Why do people not to like -- seeking to -- you and not much about."
" it's interesting the people who I haven't met me we'll have sometimes our action and then the people who you know I'm actually actually after I meet them. They have this incredible rationing up can you pass much richer than not you're. And you know I think the medium. Cries out for bluntness in being honest about stuff so I've always been very honest I started this -- as an outsider I mean I couldn't get a meeting in this industry at disarming on magazine as you know. There's no we -- army and so I sort of feel like that's spirals to be an outsider and to be blunt."
" Hope you know episode. This would be a good start for the -- if you will hang out more often. You'd be loving peace and date we have never like Haiti each other -- never ever tell anything imminent convert to something arises. Except like comment on condition of I mean there's always attack when I'm delighted that yeah we do but it. We I think is a mutual respect their answers he's done great things this program them I'm very impressed are you to FaceBook friends and you get that top friends. I have an added that stupid top friends application refused to do it. I did add the law cats though which is awesome. I have I have the cats that we that you guys that we can use. It's not going to happen and you can ask this on camera you can ask this in the green room you can ask is on the way up here that's not happening and hang with him on the show -- on loved right now. -- can you put an equivalent."
" I'll see what I can do but thank you so much both of you for joining us is a pleasure having you guys here thanks for having -- I -- cracked open they -- what's going on here at the CST what we'll do that as we head into a break. Thank you for joining us and we -- back in a moment."
" Welcome back -- home and I enjoy ice cave we want to share some video review we had a little celebration last last week in San Francisco for the launch of the hero."
" The party was a great parties at the de young museum in the tower of the -- museum in golden gate park and for those of you that are around San Francisco. It's public space -- feel free to head up there and check it out with a gorgeous views and thank you to all of our friends and families and colleagues that came. And showed up and and lent their support to us that night."
" Absolutely and you know we also -- a lot of feedback from many people and I just wanted to thank each one of them for like writing in letting us know what was wrong with the show. How we need to improve and each and every single -- that was made. Even try and incorporate in the show and do a better. For book Joyce and me this is our first time in front of a camera and they're going to try and do as best as he can and make this fun for both us and for you right. And."
" And we can start with some of our viewer comments from last week we did get an email and Jerry asks. A home what's up with having a shirt and button like that a little -- stagnate fever for key -- in my humble opinion."
" I know I know I know I've been I cannot stop hitting a bug that. Even my mother card me and told me I looked like an aging gangster but. They just duhawks in this studio and he had this like a long day and was pretty hard in San Francisco you people don't remember we taped today. There -- a power outages in San Francisco so you know electricity this coming in and going are so. That was an issue. But next time look at this I've learned my lesson. It's all of our best to keep that appears on offended and a happy with it added I don't you guys -- and I'd feel a kind of my generation yeah. Places on the young people don't even remember that we let us."
" That that's here's our loved collateral. And then also another surprise that we have for you Wallace at the first 100 view is of -- that email us at to go home. At revision3.com. Would get a free invite to -- the new company that Kevin had that we spoke about earlier today and it was gracious enough to offer those invites to our viewers 100 invites 100 invites us senate -- says yes and you have to spelt. -- right POW and CE. They're -- yet. And is it hot in Mets have right now the New York that your times is an article saying that it was hard to get invited how it's funny name and so. We got to hunt for you guys so you tell us okay. And we'll be back next week could more excitement. Thank you Joyce thank you out again."
" Support for the get go home she go he's provided by jangled."
