And I've done a couple little things here and there with VMware server and you know workstation and in some other things but today we're actually gonna get into the enterprise. Besides you know cost savings and in things like that what else is there that goes into virtualization. Well there's machine virtualization there's the actual physical. -- virtual. Putting multiple boxes on -- machine. There's also stored virtualization. Storage area networks things of that nature equal logic EMC. All of these big companies have what they call storage virtualization which logic to. While while -- get into that later. What -- show you today's kind of a brief overview of the system that I have set up now it's not the most. Awesome system in the world -- not even set up the best practices according to VMware or zen however that being said. It works for us when -- show you what we've got. In our server -- here we've got. 36 terabytes. In three cages. And -- sands space. And may be asking yourself. Why 36 Howard may end three cages while while while we're using. Twelve terabytes. Per cage. There's twelve disks per. Cage one terabyte drives each. There's data and -- 7200 -- is we wanted the maximum storage capacity that we possibly have because each of our virtual machines needs to be at least 200 gigabytes. We run SAP and it's a -- Beyond that we have a single. Dell. Our 900. This is the beast of the beast as far as -- concerns this machine. Is enormous it's got four processors. When I bought it you can only get Quad Core processors that night and its six core processors. You can load this beast up to up to 256. Gigs of ram. On this box alone we are running the equivalent. Of 45. Physical machines. So let's let's take a step back and think about that report. So 45 physical machines I've got 45 different installations of windows. On this single box this box cost my company. 23000 dollars. Go through your entire rack. Fill it with one U. Servers. How much is that gonna cost. You got -- about 1500 dollars per server. If you were gonna go with what the equivalent of -- 45 servers equals. You have to spend 1500 dollars. Her one you in a 42 U rack to equal we have in three years. The system itself we give each machine. For processing course we give each machine at least six gigs of ram. Here there. Or bouts and it runs like a champ. Now this our 900 here is directly connected. The ten Gigabit ethernet. -- So now we've got our sands which these -- cages are actually linked in this cage here. Both in rate fifty. And we get up -- put on the disc spindles and a bowel. 120 megabytes a second. And that's with all 45 physical machines on. So. This is kind of an introductory not really saying why or how or you know that kind of thing I just wanted to give you guys -- real world example of an implementation that is in a production environment. If this machine goes down. I'm so fired just put it that way so. Won't get into some of the more specifics of VMware and virtual center server. The -- motion and the disaster recovery and high availability systems a little bit later in this series but. I just want to let you guys know that. Not only the cost to purchase the 45 physical machines think about -- cost too cool. To power and to back up. These machines. Discs over to something like you know -- removable hard drive or even you know you just you thumb drive. It allows you to even play it implements the could back up your entire Wii library too hard drive not have to change discs -- and -- really cool stuff we're not mean obviously there is you know. Potential for piracy there were not interest in that out all what -- city and is playing are only two games. That you know. We -- here. On. On our PC in much better graphics so how do we get it all setup how do we get the you SP loader installed so we can start backing up our games ice or files right. But the thing is you need this program on your windows computer called the media -- manager and you go ahead and grab that and what it allows you do here is selected drive. It loaded up. And and -- all of the ice -- we've downloaded. To you war. Here -- B hard drive there and you can even extracted clip who extract button down here. And -- to see that -- it has the ability to down. Scoured the net. And download the cover art for your games which is excellent so. Once we've extracted her -- so here you can see I've got the gulf and 64 bit edition of the emulator up here I got a couple of games I have legitimately downloaded here. Like might Zelda wind weaker super smash Brothers brawl. And a Mario party eight and I can show you right here I actually. Legitimately. On -- that's okay so. So let's go ahead and dive right into the emulator so you -- and really easy to configure it for example if I wanted to change my controller options they've got a sweet little. And I've done a couple little things here and there with VMware server and you know workstation and in some other things but today we're actually gonna get into the enterprise. My little white -- here now. You guys may be asking yourself okay I understand about virtualization. Put a couple things per box. That's all fine and dandy. Besides you know cost savings and in things like that what else is there that goes into virtualization. Well there's machine virtualization there's the actual physical. -- virtual. Putting multiple boxes on -- machine. There's also stored virtualization. Storage area networks things of that nature equal logic EMC. All of these big companies have what they call storage virtualization which logic to. While while -- get into that later. What -- show you today's kind of a brief overview of the system that I have set up now it's not the most. Awesome system in the world -- not even set up the best practices according to VMware or zen however that being said. It works for us when -- show you what we've got. In our server -- here we've got. 36 terabytes. In three cages. And -- sands space. And may be asking yourself. Why 36 Howard may end three cages while while while we're using. Twelve terabytes. Per cage. There's twelve disks per. Cage one terabyte drives each. There's data and -- 7200 -- is we wanted the maximum storage capacity that we possibly have because each of our virtual machines needs to be at least 200 gigabytes. We run SAP and it's a -- Beyond that we have a single. Dell. Our 900. This is the beast of the beast as far as -- concerns this machine. Is enormous it's got four processors. When I bought it you can only get Quad Core processors that night and its six core processors. You can load this beast up to up to 256. Gigs of ram. On this box alone we are running the equivalent. Of 45. Physical machines. So let's let's take a step back and think about that report. So 45 physical machines I've got 45 different installations of windows. On this single box this box cost my company. 23000 dollars. Go through your entire rack. Fill it with one U. Servers. How much is that gonna cost. You got -- about 1500 dollars per server. If you were gonna go with what the equivalent of -- 45 servers equals. You have to spend 1500 dollars. Her one you in a 42 U rack to equal we have in three years. The system itself we give each machine. For processing course we give each machine at least six gigs of ram. Here there. Or bouts and it runs like a champ. Now this our 900 here is directly connected. The ten Gigabit ethernet. -- So now we've got our sands which these -- cages are actually linked in this cage here. Both in rate fifty. And we get up -- put on the disc spindles and a bowel. 120 megabytes a second. And that's with all 45 physical machines on. So. This is kind of an introductory not really saying why or how or you know that kind of thing I just wanted to give you guys -- real world example of an implementation that is in a production environment. If this machine goes down. I'm so fired just put it that way so. Won't get into some of the more specifics of VMware and virtual center server. The -- motion and the disaster recovery and high availability systems a little bit later in this series but. I just want to let you guys know that. Not only the cost to purchase the 45 physical machines think about -- cost too cool. To power and to back up. These machines. I'm really guys -- that thought and check back next week we're actually gonna get into the nitty gritty of how we're actually going to go about our protecting. Just a few days ago that's a taping and that is the US be sliced ST. Loader on this thing is sweet it basically allows you to not only. You know copy your your games from your week. Discs over to something like you know -- removable hard drive or even you know you just you thumb drive. It allows you to even play it implements the could back up your entire Wii library too hard drive not have to change discs -- and -- really cool stuff we're not mean obviously there is you know. Potential for piracy there were not interest in that out all what -- city and is playing are only two games. That you know. We -- here. On. On our PC in much better graphics so how do we get it all setup how do we get the you SP loader installed so we can start backing up our games ice or files right. Well there's a couple requirements to be to get the US be -- take a look here I've got the is basically the package. And I can go ahead like launch it from here or can. -- plus with a -- disk in the drive and start downloading that too and I still file on our USB stick here so it takes about an hour for a single layer we gets to download TU SB drive. And I keep in mind you USB drive is going to be formatted in what's known as the -- as we -- file system I'm not rooster TXT three or what. But the thing is you need this program on your windows computer called the media -- manager and you go ahead and grab that and what it allows you do here is selected drive. It loaded up. And and -- all of the ice -- we've downloaded. To you war. Here -- B hard drive there and you can even extracted clip who extract button down here. And -- to see that -- it has the ability to down. Scoured the net. And download the cover art for your games which is excellent so. Once we've extracted her -- so here you can see I've got the gulf and 64 bit edition of the emulator up here I got a couple of games I have legitimately downloaded here. Like might Zelda wind weaker super smash Brothers brawl. And a Mario party eight and I can show you right here I actually. Legitimately. On -- that's okay so. So let's go ahead and dive right into the emulator so you -- and really easy to configure it for example if I wanted to change my controller options they've got a sweet little. Check box here I just plugged in the USB version of the Xbox-360. Game pad. And I just check this box it says enable X 360. And that's it war on applicant polls whatever else I can even do we note which is pretty nifty lots of options in there have fun -- Anyway. All you really need to do is go ahead and open just gonna go ahead show you. Say Mario party here. And I'm going to load save because that's it states right -- save state here already gallon. -- our sincerity of Mario party here and as you can tell not every game worked perfectly. Two graphical glitches here. But you know it it's still playable but -- that the best choice really I actually went ahead and stand all the time to download the dual layer disk here at the Super Mario Brothers are super smash Brothers brawl. Lot of fun game except I the end yes -- version because I live -- in the United States. And that the emulator really support the pal version right now. So I and look -- plays -- somewhere and actually by the Albert in geek is you know I'm not downloading so I'm TPB. -- rightly so. What I have here is -- to -- it had so you wouldn't weaker now actually playable it is. So fire ripped off and then open and and Zelda wind weaker. As nice because you get -- save -- here select -- compressed now F one F two to cycle through massive spots. And there you go with my Xbox-360 controller here I am chopping. And shopping. And you and all that fun stuff that element does so I mean that's pretty much it's. Aside from you know some want to keep this with the emulator it's still it's pretty still there are pretty early in the game. But it's a lot of fun I mean you know the most of the gamecube games run excellently and you know the Wii games are only getting better and better with every build.
