" Contrast ratio is considered the most important characteristic for good picture. But if you talk to the engineers and attacks that work for the HDTV manufacturers they think that dynamic contrast numbers are simply silly marketing stuff. But they -- take static contrast varies there's so what's let's start with static and at the serious one how do you measure these static contrast and HDTV. You using static test pattern effectively the picture that's not moving it's not moving target is. The best way to do it the way I've done for years is that you go by the standard that's called antsy. -- is -- industry standard for measuring things like contrast and the way they do it is to use -- report test pattern and you take measurements of the black squares in the white sport how much like those were -- And then you basically create that that ratio that ratio brightness to darkness that creates your contrast result. Now if you're doing it dynamically. There really isn't -- defined parameter for how you actually define what a dynamic contrast is is it mean. You just pull the plug on the TV and then take a black measurement in a dark room -- yes that's a lot darker than it was zero. What's your split -- literally if you end up with a zero black measurement that could be anything contrast. It sounds really good or million to one to go into one it -- it gets ridiculous though. And besides that for any given split second can take -- management office screen when the pictures there. You're not effectively achieving a million to one conference or or -- ridiculous number it's always going to be a fixed number one way so. On the box when you're shopping in the specs of -- on -- website or shopping guide it's almost always. Now that he could actually perform very well in a dark room and bring it into the light and suddenly that screen is just creating. Is -- using very dark screen materials and for the -- fish screens it's even better because that's diffusing -- reflected light that might occur. So you're you're you're shopping for AT team what's your what's your like top four top five qualities for number one -- in contrast that's just considered. That's considered the standard the other thing you really wanna look -- two is just colorful is it well saturated by the colors. Nice and popping that's always good for just grabbing. But if you talk to the engineers and attacks that work for the HDTV manufacturers they think that dynamic contrast numbers are simply silly marketing stuff. You using static test pattern effectively the picture that's not moving it's not moving target is.
